Q: What are the 21st Century Community Learning Centers?
The Manchester School District's 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) is an afterschool program that currently serves 12 schools in Manchester, New Hampshire. We envision a community where all students are inspired to reach their full potential academically, socially, and personally through the support of the program, families, and the community. We are committed to providing an affordable, secure, and safe environment during out-of-school time.
Q: What schools do the 21st CCLC program serve?
The 21st CCLC program serves eight elementary schools - Bakersville, Beech, Gossler Park, Hallsville, McDonough, Northwest, Parker-Varney and Wilson, and all four middle schools - Hillside, McLaughlin, Parkside, and Southside.
Children must have completed at least one year of kindergarten to attend.
Q: What are the hours of operation for the 21st CCLC program?
The 21st CCLC program sites are open 3 hours per day, 5 days a week during out of school time. Please see program schedules on our website for school/site specific opening and closing times.
Q: Do you have a summer program?
We do! The 21st CCLC program offers a FREE four-week, 20-day summer program. The summer program operates from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday. All 21st CCLC students are invited to attend the summer program. The summer program flyers and registration information can now be found under program flyers.
Registration and Course Offerings
Q: How do I enroll my student in the 21st CCLC program?
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
1. Review the session flyer and class offerings with your student and make your class selection(s) on the back of the registration form under “course selection.”
2. Complete both sides of the registration form.
3. Detach the completed registration form and return along with payment (cash, check, or money order) as soon as possible to the location indicated on the flyer.
Q: When is the registration form due and where do I submit?
The due dates for registration are posted on each school’s flyer. Registration forms along with payment may be submitted to the site coordinator or to the location indicated on the flyer.
Q: How will I know if my student’s registration and class selection is confirmed?
You will be notified as soon as possible if we are unable to accommodate/register your student, or if your student is placed on a wait-list.
Note: Your registration form will be returned if it is not COMPLETELY filled out or submitted without payment. This may delay registration and confirmation of class selection.
Q: What types of clubs are offered as part of the 21st CCLC?
Every 21st CCLC site offers homework help which is facilitated by district certified, school day teachers. We also offer a balance of academic enrichment, arts, wellness, and recreational programming such as art clubs, reading and math activities, performance arts, recreational activities, cooking clubs, and a variety of other classes. Q: How much does the program cost?
There is a non-refundable $5 registration fee per session, for each student participating in the program. We offer both free and fee classes. The cost per class is $15 or $30 (based on free/reduced lunch status) and covers the whole 8-9 week session.
Scholarships and financial aid are always available. Please contact your site coordinator for more information.
Q: What time should I pick up my student?
Students can be picked up after their class has ended. If you need to pick up your student early, please notify your school’s site coordinator in advance.
Q: My student has a medical condition (disability, food allergy, etc.) that staff members need to know about. What should I do?
Please notify the site coordinator in advance of any medical condition related to your child.
Community Involvement
Q: Who works for the 21st CCLC?
We employ Manchester School District certified teachers and staff members, external professional instructors, volunteers, college students, and high school students.
Q: How can I work for the 21st CCLC?
All paid positions are posted on the Manchester School District website. Positions are posted as they become available. College students may also be eligible to work in our program in a work-study position. Please check with your college’s financial aid coordinator for more information.
Q: I would like to volunteer, how would I do that?
The 21st CCLC welcomes volunteers. Please contact your site coordinator for volunteer opportunities or see our volunteer letter, posted on our "Get Involved" page, for more details.
Q: How do I donate to the 21st CCLC?
Donations are always welcomed and greatly appreciated! Please contact your site coordinator or the program director for more information. Also, be sure to visit our “supplies wish list” for items that are always in high demand at our sites.
21st CCLC Happenings
Q: What types of events does the 21st CCLC offer?
The 21st CCLC plans a variety of events throughout the year. These events include:
Lights On Afterschool - a celebration in recognition of afterschool programs nationwide.
Participation in Manchester’s annual holiday parade - representing the 21st CCLC in front of thousands of Manchester residents.
A program-wide student showcase - students take the stage to share with the community their newly learned skills and abilities through dances, songs, demonstrations, presentations, and videos
An art exhibit displaying 21CCLC students’ work – held in the gallery at the University of New Hampshire – Manchester campus.

Q: How can I keep up with what’s happening with the program?
