The Geophysical Community
One of my main goals as an academic is to serve the geophysics community. I hope I could accomplish some of that through my academic responsibilities (teaching and research), but more directly by taking up responsibilities through participating in committees that are meant to do that. Consequently, I am currently engaged in the following:
Editor in Chief, Journal of Exploration and Production technology, publisher: Springer 2009-2017.
Associate Editor, Geophysics, publisher: SEG* 2011-2018.
Associate Editor, Geophysical Prospecting, publisher: EAGE* 2013-.
Member of the EAGE* Research Committee 2005-2013.
Member of the EAGE* Award Committee 2009-2011
Member of the EAGE* Technical Committee 2010-present.
Member of the SEG technical program committee 2011.
Member of the supervisory Committee for OGEP*, 2007-present.
Honorary lecturer for the SEG* for Middle East and Africa 2011.
Member of the SEG Distinguished Lecturer committee, 2012-present.
Course lecturer for the Educational tour for the EAGE, 2014-2015
The SEG District 10 representative: 2015-
reviewer to GP, Geophysics, and GJI 10+ papers per year.
In the past I was fortunate to organize the following events:
OGEP2008: Oil and Gas Exploration and Production meeting and exhibition, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 2008.
The workshop: Open Source E&P Software – Putting the Pieces Together during the EAGE* meeting, Vienna, Austria, 2006.
The workshop: Migration Velocity Analysis in Anisotropic Media – What Is Possible and What Is Impossible? during the EAGE* meeting, Barcelona, Spain, 2010.
The workshop: Open Source E&P Software – 6 years later during the upcoming EAGE* meeting, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2012.
The workshop: Full waveform inversion: from near surface to deep, Muscat Oman, April 2013.
The workshop: Waveform simulation and modeling and inversion, KAUST, May 2013.
The workshop: High performance computing by the EAGE, September 2014.
The award: EAGE 2014 Geo-Creativity Prize.
The workshop: Full waveform inversion: filling the gaps, Abu Dhabi, March 2015.
The workshop: Full waveform inversion: What is the output, Bahrain, Dec. 2017.
Current Events:
EAGE educational tour, around the world, 2014-2018. Course title:"Full waveform inversion in an anisotropic world: where are the parameters hiding?" Heading to South Korea and Japan in Dec. 2018
