Math and Science Syllabus

Course Description:

This course is designed to address the diverse learning needs and modifications of students. Math, science and reading are emphasized daily for all students. Individual learning needs will be supported as well as career educational, social skills, science and math. Each course content is to designed to satisfy each students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Each IEP is specially designed to meet each student’s educational needs.

Required Materials:

Students are responsible daily for having composition note, a pencil (or pen for science), and earbuds. There is no required text for math or science.

Grading:

Assignments: Major grades 3-5 assignments and are 50% of the final grade, Minor 8-12 assignments and are 40% of the final grade, Homework 4+ Assignments and are 10% of the final grade.

Grading Scale: A, 100-90, B, 89-80; C, 79-70; D, 69-60, 59-below F

Classwork:

Students are expected to complete class assignments in class. Each day students will turn classwork into their class tray with their name and class period written on it. Students are responsible for turning in timely assignments into the correct tray. Incomplete classwork becomes homework. Habitual late or missing assignments will result in a phone call home.

Homework

Homework will be assigned on as an need bases. We will have 4 or more homework assignments per 9 week period. Homework is not a punishment but a valuable tool to your child succeed with subject.

Missing Work:

It is the student’s responsibility to make up missing work. There is a missing work crate in the room near the student table where all copies of assignments are placed. Students should independently retrieve the assignments from the crate. Make up work will be given according to all district policies and rules.

Late Work:

Sometimes unforeseen things happen and so does late assignments. Points will be deducted for late assignments. 10 points off per day, with a max of 60 if turned in by end of unit, max of 50 if turned in after the unit.

Rules and Expectations:

    • Do things that will not prevent me from teaching, nor you from learning.
    • Respect yourself, me, others, and your school.
    • Be responsible.
    • Be honest, admit your mistakes.
    • Listen, do not talk while I am talking.
    • No food or drinks.
    • No cell phone usage.

Consequences:

    • 1st offense: Verbal warning
    • 2nd offense: Teacher conference with student
    • 3rd offense: Complete a behavior reflection
    • 4th offense: Contact parents
    • 5th offense: Detention and phone call to parents
    • 6th offense: Referral and phone call to parents
    • Any significant offenses will be immediately submitted to an administrator.

Technology:

Greenville High School is now a 1:1 with technology devices. What this means is, each student will receive a chromebook to use at school and at home. Much care should be given when using technology in the classroom and at home. Below are the rules and processes for technology devices in the classroom. Students must adhere to all district and school rules when using a school administered device.

    • Devices will remain under the desk until given permission to use.
    • All unnecessary apps and tabs should be closed, only the app assigned by the teacher will be opened.
    • No liquids or food near the device.
    • Charge devices at home. The classroom is a no charge zone. Students will be given a paper assignment if the device is not charged.
    • No audio. Students must use earbuds when listening to assignments.
    • No games or social media on devices at anytime.
