/s/

It’s always a good idea to start out in front of a mirror. Point out the way your teeth are together and your tongue stays inside your mouth and behind your teeth when you make an /s/ sound. Have your son or daughter copy you, while watching him/herself in the mirror. Encourage your child to watch how it looks and feels to make a correct /s/ sound.

Another trick is to have your child say the /t/ sound over and over again (tttttttt). Then have your child put his/her tongue in the same spot as he/she would if he/she were to say the /t/ sound. Then tell your child to blow air. Our tongues are in the same placement for /t/ sound as they are for the /s/. That always seems to help!
