SWS Scholarships

SWS offers two scholarship options to its seniors who best represent the character of the SWS community: Respect, Academic Excellence, Community Involvement, and Personal Growth. Book scholarship(s) are given specifically to help cover book expenses during the student's first semester at college. The Mari Churchill Service Award is awarded to the student who has made a significant contribution to service during his or her four years with SWS. Applications for these scholarships will be posted in the Spring.

History of the Mari Churchill Service Award

Mariko [Mari] Churchill was a 4-year SWS student who graduated in 1994. Mari had a sense of community that was both sincere and pro-active. She truly enjoyed seeing that her energy could help others who may be less fortunate or who could use a little additional help. This extended from the traditions of her parents, Bob and Susan, who had worked in their professional lives with community groups.

Mari [pronounced MAH-ree] not only saw needs of what groups of youth could do for others, but led naturally in these areas. She had a synergistic effect in SWS to multiply her work with that of the others on a project. Due to her efforts the initial Bean-a-fit took place in SWS. Thanks to members of the SWS community, these continue to help Bean’s Café to this day.

Mari extended her community service work and ideas beyond the realm of Bean’s Café. East High grounds cleanup in the spring, funding to help with first aid kits, and SWS participation in Can-Struction also began with the wise assistance to Mariko and her connections to the community at large.
