Team 85 participates in a multitude of community events in order to help manifest a passion for STEM in our local community. Through these events, we intend to give back to our community for its never-ending support.
In the summer, Team 85 participates in Zeelmania. Zeelmania is an event put on by the city of Zeeland to gather the community together. Our team participates in three evenings where we host free STEAM activities for kids, which allows us to share our passion for science and technology with our local community.
Team 85 joined Davenport University for their annual Camp Infinity event. Camp Infinity hopes to introduce girls in grades 5-8 to the world of internet technologies by way of hands-on, age-appropriate activities ranging from animation to app development to robot programming.
In the middle of summer, Team 85 gathers at the Howard Miller Library to give kids an opportunity to engage with our robot and learn about great scientists through fun activities and books.
The Walk For Warmth raises money to heat the homes of low-income residents of Ottawa County. Community members participate by walking in the frigid winter weather throughout downtown Holland. In 2025, Team 85 raised $1,635 for the event. Find out more about Walk For Warmth here!
Pumpkinfest is a Zeeland community celebration filled with family fun and seasonal activities. This event has been around for 30 years. It's a three-day festivity that offers free events for the community. Team 85 participates in the Pumpkinfest parade annually to continue to nourish the community's passion for STEM.
Team 85 partners up with Team 74 CHAOS and Team 107 R.O.B.O.T.I.C.S. to march in the Holland Tulip Time Muziek parade to promote STEM to a large crowd of attendees.
Dance Marathon is an event that raises money for Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. Our own Zeeland High School hosts it! We show off our robot and introduce participants to our program. The children from the hospital even get to drive the robot and always have a great time.
This off-season event takes place at Zeeland High School. The competition is dedicated to giving new teams a taste of FIRST and building excitement for the upcoming season. The WMRI is co-hosted by Team 85 and four other area teams. To see more information or register for the event, click here!
During the fall we mentor two FLL Challenge teams: Team 60342, B.O.B. (Built On Bricks), and Team 60343, Team LEGO Gryffindor. FLL Challenge is a program for 4th and 5th grade students. We teach them the beginning aspects of STEM and FIRST and what it means to lead by example.
