CAMPUS-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS

• PRIDE CLUB: is on for the 26-27 school year!  We meet in Room 215 at Zeeland East from 3-4 PM every Wednesday.  All students, LGBTQ+ and Allies, are welcome!  Any questions, email Mr. Guy,  jguy@zps.org

• DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS CLUB: has officially kicked off for the 26-27 school year!  Whether you're part of a D&D campaign or just interested and want to know more, pop into Room 215 at Zeeland East on Thursday's right after school until around 6:45 PM.  Students of all skill levels are welcome!  Any questions, email Mr. Guy, jguy@zps.org

• 2026-2027 SPEECH AND DEBATE CLUB: A new ZHS Speech and Debate Club is starting up next fall!  Students from both West and East are encouraged to consider this unique opportunity to develop public speaking skills and debate real-world issues through genuine conversations with classmates!  There will be an informational meeting during advisory this Friday, May 29th, in Mrs.Mielke's room (E105) at West.  Anyone who is interested should join the google classroom: 3hzefmh7 and then you will be signed out from advisory to attend and get more info.

• PICKELBALL: Zeeland Pickleball Club - An after school recreational club activity for ZE and ZW boys and girls (and possibly staff too) who are interested in learning the game, growing their skills, hanging out with friends and even playing some friendly competitions. The club meets mondays and Wednesdays after school at Helder Park from 3:00 - 4:45 to play. It is recommended that you have your own pickleball paddle but if you don't we can help you find one to borrow. Students interested in being a part of this organized club should complete this short survey to express their interest and get on the email list. 

• DEWITT AUDITORIUM TECH WORKERS NEEDED - Do you love theatre, music, or live events? DeWitt Auditorium is looking for hardworking, reliable students to join our crew! Learn hands-on skills in lighting, sound, stage management, and more. Be part of  shows, concerts, and events that happen on our stage. No experience needed. We will train you. Money! (who doesn't love that?). Pay range starts at approximately 12-13$/hr (hours vary by season, workers receive up to 100-200 hours per year. pending on availability). • PARKING: Attention all students who drive to school: If you park in a handicapped spot you will be issued a ticket by Officer Thompson. You will also lose all parking privileges for the remainder of the school year. If you park in a guest spot your parking privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the school year. Please only park in student parking.

• REPORTING SYSTEM: Both Zeeland East and Zeeland West have created an email account to report any incident involving hate speech, racism, bullying, or other types of derogatory language. If you hear or experience something that falls under this category, please report the incident by email to hsreport@zps.org. Administrators will follow up within 48 hours. 

• CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE INFO:  The ZPS Device Insurance Program deadline to sign up is October 31st.  Please click on the information flyer to get started on the link provided.  The cost is $35/device or $90/family cap with 3 or more devices insured. • APPOINTMENTS:  Students leaving during the school day for an appointment must check their email for a pass from the Attendance office.  All passes are sent by email after receiving a call to the attendance line from a parent.  Please watch your email for a pass if you know you will be leaving during the day.

• PARKING PASSES: All cars parked in the East and West parking lots must have a visible parking pass.  Permit applications are available in both the offices.  Reminder:  No driving your car with your parking pass between schools between hours.  Cars are to stay parked in one parking lot.

NOTES FROM THE COUNSELING OFFICE

• ​CTC and Farm School Students: HERE is the ZPS CTC/FFA Calendar for the 26-27 school year. 

• Seniors/Senior Parents: Here is the slideshow from the fall senior counseling meeting. Please review the information in the presentation and utilize this senior year planning checklist for information relevant to your last year of high school. It is very important that you complete the senior survey in order to inform your counselor if you would like to schedule an individual meeting to review post-high plans and ask questions. 

• Come and check out our new spin on college rep visits - college speed dating!  Connect with multiple schools during one Advisory session. Check out these flyers for more info - Sep 16 (Wayne State, Eastern, Western, Oakland), Sep. 18 (Hope, GVSU). Register through the QR code on the flyer or HERE.

• Seniors: Are you planning to attend college next year but are overwhelmed at the prospect of starting your applications? Do the schools you are planning on applying to use the Common Application but it seems confusing? No worries! We are here to help! The counseling office will be hosting a Common App help session on Monday, September 21 during Advisory. Seniors will be able to get an overview of the Common App, create their own accounts, and get answers to some of the frequently asked questions that arise. If you are interested in attending, please complete this form by noon on Friday, September 18. 

• Parents/Guardians: As we look to continue to provide ZHS students with opportunities to engage in career exploration, we would like to expand our job shadow database, and we need your help!  If you are willing to partner with us by offering a job shadow experience at your place of employment, would you please take time to complete this FORM?  If you participated previously, please check your email to confirm your interest for this school year. Thank you! 

• Parents/Guardians of Seniors: Score report folders containing your child's Spring 2026 MME test results will be handed out to students during Advisory the week of 9/14. You will be able to view their scores for the SAT with Essay, M-Step Science, M-Step Social Studies, and the WIN Work Readiness assessments. To understand what the scores mean, please read through this document.

• Juniors interested in taking the fall PSAT/NMSQT on October 27 can register HERE by Friday, 10/2 at 3:00 p.m. This is an OPTIONAL test to prepare for the SAT. It is also the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarship consideration. Cost is $20. The late test registration window runs from 10/2 to noon on 10/9 at a cost of $30. No registrations will be accepted after the late deadline. 

• Seniors: Each year, the local chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) invites Zeeland East and Zeeland West to participate in the DAR Good Citizen Program and Scholarship Contest. This program is intended to encourage and reward seniors who possess the qualities of good citizenship: dependability, service, leadership, patriotism. If you are interested in being considered for this honor, please complete this form. For the chance to win at least $500, students will be required to prepare a resume and write an essay. The deadline for consideration is noon on September 23. 

• Hope College will be hosting the annual Holland Area College Night on Wednesday, September 16 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the DeVos Fieldhouse. Reps from over 50 colleges will be on hand to meet with students and parents. More information is available HERE. 

• October SAT: The registration deadline for the October 3 national SAT test is September 18. Any senior who desires to retake the SAT for the opportunity to improve scores for college admission or scholarships can register at this link by signing into their College Board account - https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat. 

• Seniors and families looking for help paying for college are encouraged to register for a virtual financial aid presentation provided by MI Student Aid.  Participants will be able to gather information on the following financial aid topics: FAFSA application information, federal financial aid programs, state financial aid programs, scholarship search resources. Sessions are offered on various dates throughout the school year. More information is HERE. 

• Interested in learning more about opportunities in the healthcare field? Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital is once again offering career exploration seminars to individuals 16 years of age or older. More information is available HERE.
