Opioid Abuse Prevention

Welcome! Over the next nine weeks, you will learn about opioids, and the dangers of legally prescribed opioid medications. Your teacher will be using this in conjunction with your in-person health classes at school.

You need to know the facts about opioids and addiction. You need to know how to prevent addiction. You need to know how to recognize an overdose and how to respond. Opioid addiction happens fast, and it is deadly. It is time for your generation to stop the epidemic.

By completing the modules in this Opioid Abuse Prevention site, you will learn:

2. Proper and safe use of opioid prescription medication and what NOT to do with opioid prescriptions

3. What addiction is and how your family medical history affects the tendency for addiction

4. How to recognize a drug overdose and how to immediately respond

5. What people and resources are available for you to get help for yourself or an addicted friend or family member

Your Final Project

Your Final Project for this course will be a Google Site on which you and your teammates post each module's Team Site Assignment and a final 30- to 60-second video to help others avoid opioid abuse.

  • In the "Let's Get Started" module, you will find 3 other students and form a team
  • You will create a Google Site, and for each module, you will each add your individual "Team Site Assignment" to your team Google Site
  • You and your teammates will create your video during the Final Project weeks of the course; this will be added to your team Google Site
  • You team Google site will be your final assessment for the course
