Akron is known as the rubber capital of the world, but some may wonder what else there is to this city? Throughout it's nearly two centuries of history, Akron has been the home to a diverse array of people, but a lot of its history is unknown...

Welcome to our project: Howard Street's LGBTQIA+ History! During Spring 2024, the three of us researched the queer history of a former street in Akron. In this site we urge you to explore the history and culture of Howard Street, the phenomenon of the queer and jazz intersection, and specific locations that once thrived on this historic street. Come for the music, stay for the culture, and learn about an important piece in Akron's history.
