About Us

We are "Out" of Akron, a University of Akron UnClass sponsored by the EXL Center, made up of passionate students researching various niches of the City of Akron's LGBTQ+ history. From safe spaces, cruising, gender-queer identities and the University itself, it has been our goal to explore, understand and share these stories with our community. We spent a semester digging into various archives, writing blog posts (found here) reaching out to local organizations and learning all we could to create our projects, which are shared throughout this website.
