Join us at MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, an iconic cultural landmark on the banks of the Tagus River in Lisbon’s historic Belém district.

MAAT brings together a former power station dating from 1908 with the contemporary MAAT Gallery, designed by British architect Amanda Levete and her studio AL_A. Connected by gardens along the waterfront, the museum is dedicated to art, architecture, technology, critical thinking and dialogue, making it an inspiring setting for the ZDHC Circularity Summit on 4–5 November 2026.

What to Expect

The Vibe: Architectural, creative & forward-looking. MAAT brings together Lisbon’s industrial heritage and contemporary design, creating a space where history, technology and new ideas meet. The museum’s distinctive low-slung architecture follows the waterfront, creating a strong connection between the city and the Tagus.

The Space: The MAAT campus combines the historic Central Tejo power station, contemporary museum, event spaces and the surrounding MAAT Garden. It provides a fitting environment for conversations about transformation, innovation and the future of our industry.

The View: The Tagus at your doorstep. Between sessions, step outside to enjoy the riverside, MAAT Garden and views across the Tagus towards the 25 de Abril Bridge. The building and surrounding public spaces were designed to reconnect Lisbon with its waterfront.

Located in Belém, west of Lisbon city centre, MAAT is well connected by train, tram and bus.

By Train

The Cascais Line from Cais do Sodré to Belém station is one of the easiest and most reliable ways to reach the venue from central Lisbon. From Belém station, MAAT is approximately a 7-minute walk.

By Tram

The 15E tram connects central Lisbon with Belém and is another convenient option. Get off at Altinho (MAAT), approximately a 4-minute walk from the museum.

By Bus

Several bus routes also serve the Belém and MAAT area, including 201, 714, 727, 728 and 751. Depending on the route, the closest stops are Altinho (MAAT) or Estação Fluvial Belém.

By Bike

MAAT has bicycle parking available, and the riverside route between central Lisbon and Belém makes cycling an attractive option for those comfortable travelling by bike.

By Car

A public car park is located approximately 500 metres from the museum. However, traffic and parking in Belém can be busy, so we recommend using public transport where possible.

By Car

We do not recommend renting a car solely for travelling around Lisbon. Public transport, taxis and ride-hailing services are generally more convenient, particularly in the historic centre and around Belém.

By Metro

Aeroporto station is located on the Lisbon Metro’s Red Line. To reach the historic city centre, you will normally need to change lines, for example, at Alameda. Lisbon Metro operates daily from approximately 06:30 to 01:00.

A standard Carris/Metro single ticket costs €1.90 and is valid for 60 minutes from the first validation. Contactless bank-card payment for a Metro journey costs €1.92.

Allow approximately 30–40 minutes to reach central Lisbon, depending on your final destination and connection.

By Taxi or Ride-Hailing

Taxis are available directly outside the airport terminals. Uber and other ride-hailing services also operate in Lisbon. Journey times to central Lisbon are typically around 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic. Uber currently reports an average airport UberX fare of approximately €15 for a 25-minute trip, although actual fares vary with demand and destination.

Public Transport Tickets

Lisbon is very walkable, particularly within individual neighbourhoods, but its network of trams, buses, Metro and suburban trains makes it easy to travel between the city centre and Belém.

For 2026, a Carris/Metro single ticket costs €1.90 and is valid for 60 minutes. A 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket costs €7.25, while a 24-hour Carris/Metro/CP ticket costs €11.40 and also includes Lisbon’s urban train network, useful if travelling to MAAT via the Cascais Line. Zapping pay-as-you-go journeys costs €1.72.

Tickets can be purchased and loaded onto a Navegante card. On the Metro, travellers can also use a contactless bank card, phone or smartwatch directly at the gates.

For visitors planning to explore Lisbon during their stay, the Lisboa Card includes unlimited travel on Metro, buses, trams, and selected trains for 24, 48, or 72 hours, along with admission or discounts at numerous attractions. MAAT is also one of the attractions included in the current Lisboa Card programme.
