Fun Fact about me and my family- Between my siblings, parents, and myself ; We have 8 college degrees from 6 different schools, in 3 different states, and when my youngest brother graduates we will have a total of 10.
Teaching
I am entering my 12th year of teaching. I spent my first 2 years teaching 5th Grade in Omaha Public Schools, at Skinner Magnet Center in North Omaha. I was truly thankful for the experience, but jumped at the opportunity to return to a small community. This is my 10th year teaching 6th Grade at Yutan Elementary, and I am happy everyday to be a part of the Yutan tribe!
Coaching
Currently I am the head golf coach and a part of the wrestling coaching staff at Yutan. I have been JH football and JH wrestling coach in Yutan, as well as have been a volunteer coach for multiple other programs.
Educational philosophy
I believe that students learn best when they are comfortable, having a little fun, being challenged, and knowing that it's okay to F.A.I.L.. In order to achieve this, my classroom appears a bit different from many others, in that there are several lamps illuminating the room, as opposed to the harsh fluorescent overhead lights, and music is constantly playing softly in the background. I use a variety of teaching styles and materials, that enriches the quality of education they receive, while challenging them.
I also believe that it is okay for students to F.A.I.L., as it is their First Attempt In Learning. Together we then work to understand what went wrong, so we understand it better, which encourages them to be resilient and understand that they aren't always get everything right away. I believe this to be an important part of their growth as an individual.
