Inside Out Portraits

Driving Question: How can we as students make and display Inside Out portraits that reflect how history continues to repeat itself and the danger of our inability to learn from the past?

Project Goals: Students examined how history continues to repeat itself using 20th century conflicts as a lens. In history students studied the conflicts of the 20th century and the consequences of these conflicts. English Ten read "The Crucible" as an allegory for McCarthyism and "The Things They Carried" as a reflection on the Vietnam War. After participating in activities that allow students to reflect on how these conflicts are repeating themselves in our contemporary culture they will design a portrait for an art exhibition called “Been There, Done That” as part of the worldwide Inside Out Project (http://www.insideoutproject.net/en/group-actions/united-states-yellow-springs).
