"Changing the world, one child at a time..."
Since I was a young girl, I always dreamt of working in a job where I could help people. Before becoming a teacher, I completed my degree in Child Development at Sac State in 2019 in hopes of attaining a long term position in Education. I have completed my Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential Program with the Yolo Solano Center for Teacher Crendentialing and graduated June 2nd, 2025. After completing my Induction program, I plan on pursuing my Master's degree and attaining my Montessori training. In the future, I see myself in an Administrative position utilizing all of the skills and life experiences to motivate, guide, model, and make a difference one child at a time.
I have worked in a daycare center as a Pre-K Teacher for two years where I had many kids with behavioral concerns and some on the spectrum. I have many years of volunteer work in an Elementary School setting (fully inclusive classrooms and a special day class). While working as a long-term substitute in Woodland, I worked one-on-one with students who were emotionally disturbed, needing severe and consistent behavior intervention and modification, and encountered students who needed their basis needs met. I became a teacher who provided a strict, consistent, safe, and loving environment for them to learn.
I am partially fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in the Spanish language.
Most importantly I am passionate about teaching all children. I fully believe in my heart that not all children fit in one box--sometimes we have to be creative and individualize our teaching methods. I found with experience that my strength came by igniting a joy of learning through different means. Working as a Pre-K teacher in Winters, I found that utilizing art and music was an easy and fun way to get children of all levels to be motivated to learn and retain information.
This is my 4th year teaching 2nd grade and my 3rd year teaching here at DMCS. This year, my classroom will transition to a 2/3 combo class and I'm so excited to be a part of all your children's learning experience--watch them grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
In my classroom, we will be going back to the basics of respect for each other, being responsible, exercising manners, being safe/feeling safe, and being accountable for our choices. I'm huge on communication so feel free to contact me regarding your comments, questions, or concerns.
My teaching philosophy is that the classroom is an extension of the home: we are a family, every individual, family member, staff member is encompassed in making the environment conducive to learning. We are in this together. There will be no shortage of love, sense of belonging, and support in my classroom. We will thrive, learn, and grow as a family--through the good times and the bad we will make it because we believe in each other.

Finally, I want you to know that I am a mom too. I have two boys ages 7 (Hunter attends DMCS and Von is 15 1/2). I understand what it is like to be a parent. I am a parent who works two jobs and attends night school--so I know what you're going through. Remember you're not alone and I'm here to help for whatever you need.
Warmly,
Miss Mia
