Contest Guidelines

Shout Out at the Bay Contest Guidelines-2018:

All poems must be original works of under 3 minutes and will be vetted by the Poetry Slam Committee.

Poems must be school appropriate.

All registrations must be submitted online by February 23rd.

Poems must be submitted electronically to Mrs. Sloan by February 23rd- jennifer.sloan@yourcharlotteschools.net. Poems must be emailed by midnight on February 23rd to complete registration. Poems may also be shared via Google Drive or Office 365. Any poem not received by Feb. 23rd will invalidate the registration and the student will not be permitted to participate.

Poems must be performed individually (no groups) and must be recited from memory.

No music, sound, or technology enhancements will be permitted.

Voluntary practice will be in the Black Box Theater on Friday, March 2nd from 2-4 p.m.

Students will perform their original poem at the Poetry Slam on Tuesday, March 6th at 6:30 p.m.

Students must arrive by 6:00 p.m.

The competition order will be on a random draw. Students will stand before the audience, introduce themselves with name, age, and grade, and will identify the poem they will perform.

Contestants will be evaluated by a panel of 5 randomly selected audience members who will use the Shout Out at the Bay Evaluation Sheet.

Your original poetry will be featured here on the Shout Out at the Bay website.
