I grew up in Nebraska until attending high school in Columbus, Ohio. I did my undergraduate work at Binghamton University in upstate New York before heading to Ohio State for graduate school. Before moving to Punta Gorda, I lived in Valdosta, Georgia, and Jacksonville, FL. I have a wonderful, hilarious, bright and creative daughter, Adelise, age 9.
Adelise and I live in PGI and love to beach it, bike, get out on the boat, and Adelise is a budding artist and naturalist. I fish, kayak, cook, play guitar, and ride my road bike whenever I can. I belong to the Peace River Riders Bicycle Club here in PG.
My inspirations include: family, Jerry Garcia, Herman Melville, Chief Brody, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, Bill Monroe, Harry Lime, Charles Kinbote, Philip Marlowe, Frank Chambers, Lefty and Poncho, et al.
I am currently Director of Operations for the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition. I have over 25 years of experience in American public education, including 23 years at the university level as a professor and administrator, and 6 years in the public schools at the secondary level. My first career was as a tenured academic. I have taught at Ohio State, Cleveland State, John Carroll and for thirteen years was associate professor at Valdosta State University in South Georgia. My time at VSU included an appointment as graduate chair and several other administrative and service positions. My current resume is here. My academic c.v. is here.
