READ Across Liberty Week
This is a school wide week of reading celebration. During the week students engage in a different reading activity each day. Previous activities have included community members coming in to read, door decorating contest, buddy reading, storyteller visit, and more. The week ends with DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read) with family, staff, and students reading together outside in the afternoon.
Reading Zone
The reading zone is a school wide reading contest where students read and take AR tests for 6 weeks. At the end of the six weeks we have a week long celebration with dress up days each day and an awards ceremony. Awards go to the top reader in each class, the top two readers in each grade level (who also get to silly string the principal, ap or librarian), and the top class in each grade level (who also get to douse the principal, ap, or librarian with buckets of water).
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read the books, and then take a comprehension test on the computer . Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. Students are rewarded for the points they earn in class and at schoolwide competitions.
Students in each grade level can also earn an AR t-shirt each year if they get the number of points needed at their grade level.
