Week 9- JUMP ROPES
Choose a rope that will touch the ground when you hold it shoulder height.
Holding the rope in both hands, the rope must swing in a circle over your head and touch the floor on each swing.
The roper must stand upright with bent knees. He cannot lean over when he jumps. This is called an athletic position.
While jumping, a rhythm must be kept using your rope. It should be ......1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4.......etc.
Start your jump rope with your hands down and behind you. Throw your hands back and up to get your rope started in a circle.
A standard Jump Rope for students is 7 or 8 feet long while a standard long rope is 14 to 16 feet long. Some of the best jump ropes are old clothes lines or rope lines from a boat. You can purchase these at your hardware store or you can buy a jump rope at any discount or sporting goods store.
Hopscotch is a great game for building up muscles. The game is to hop from square to square starting on one and ending on ten. You may use one foot or hop on two feet or hop on first one foot- then two feet (split)- then one foot - then two feet- etc. The game can also include a marker. The marker can be anything that will land and stay in one square. Try to throw your market in number 1 square and jump over it so you land in squares 2 and 3. Then hopscotch out of the game area. Pick up your market and throw to 2. Hop past 2 (Do not land in 2) and hopscotch out of the game area. Continue until you have thrown the marker in all ten squares. If you fail to throw your marker in your square, you lose your turn.
Welcome to WORKOUT WEDNESDAY. Let's start with a warm up........
Ten (10) Jumping Jacks
Do the same number of sit ups.
Run around the outside of the house 4 times!
Skip in front of your home 6 times.
Server always serves from #1 Square. He must drop the ball first in #1 quare before striking it into another square.
A served ball may not hit twice in a square or hit a line on the 4-Square court.
Winning player can advance only one numbered square.
Losing player must return to #1 square and serve the ball.
A player winning the #4 square wins the game. Winning player returns to #1 square and becomes the server for the next game.
All arguments are settled by RockPaperScissors. Play Fair.
This is week 6 already. Today I am going to teach you the game of SIMON. Simon is an electronic game that teaches math sequencing. You must remember the sequence of lights on the game- red-blue-green-yellow-green-green-red......I can't remember! I lost the game!
We are going to lay this game on a 4 Square Court. Your court can have 4 foot squares, 5 foot squares, or 6 foot squares. Number each square with 1, 2, 3, or 4. In the corner of the SIMON GAME picture, I was playing around and made a 4 square game. Notice that 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 are catty corner.
We have 2 players. The person that calls out the numbers and the gamer who jumps to the numbers in sequence. Just like in SIMON, the Gamer will hear the numbers in sequence that he is to jump. He can only hear them one time but the Announcer has to do a good job of giving them the Gamer.
The Gamer starts in number 1 square. The Announcer chooses a number between 1 and 4. (Let's say the Announcer chooses 3) The Announcer says," 1-3." The Gamer the jumps to 1 then 3. The announcer chooses 4 and says," 1-3-4." The Gamer jumps to 1 then 3 then 4. the Announcer chooses 4 again. He says, "1-3-4-4." The Gamer jumps to these numbers in order. This continues until the Gamer fails to jump to a number in the sequence. The Gamer gets to count up the last sequence of numbers and that is his score.
Hey everyone!!! Welcome to Workout Wednesday. We are going to divide this class up into 3 sections.
Section 1.....Warm ups.
Section 2...... Indoor games. Today's game will be the Dot to Dot Game and here is how it is played.......
Take a piece of paper and make 4 dots horizontally (across the page) and then put dots under your top line so you have 4 columns of 4 dots.
. . . . This is how it will look. You may draw a vertical or horizontal line. You may NOT draw an X line.
. . . . Connect two dots either up and down or across on your turn. (Vertical or Horizontal)
. . . . If you can find 3 sides of a box, you can put the fourth side and make a square. Put your name in it.
. . . . If you make a box, you must go again.(Even if your line makes 3 sides for your opponent.)
Count the number of boxes with your initial in it and the number of boxes with your opponent. Winner has the most.
Section 3..... Outdoor game. Ask your parents to show you what a mile looks like. It might be 10 times from corner to corner in front of your house or it might be 25 times around the house. I would like you to run a mile before next Wednesday.
WEEK THREE............
The game today is indoor basketball. this is a target game that will improve your your basketball skills. You will need a trash can, paper wads or a small bouncing ball. Do not use a basketball unless you are outside. We are going to talk about 3 different ways to play indoor basketball- Paper Wad Basketball, Over-the-door Basketball and Trashcan Basketball. We are also going to talk about 3 games. ONE TWO THREE, Match Me, and PIG.
Paper Wad Basketball- wad up (5) five 8x11 pieces of scrap paper. This is your BBAll. Find a kitchen trash can. Shoot your paper wads like they were basketballs at the trashcan.
Trashcan Basketball-Use a large trashcan for this game. Also use a small air filled ball like a volleyball or playground ball. You can use a basketball outside of the house. Put the can against the house or garage door to stop your BBall on an over shot. Use the wall to bank your ball.
Over the Door Basketball Goal- One of the best games you can buy for indoor basketball. No slam dunks if you want to keep it from breaking.
Now let's talk about games to play. Here are three......
ONE TWO THREE........Find a spot on the floor. Line up and stay in line- no cuts. Players' must rebound their shots and give the ball to the next player in line who is without a ball. The first player to score three shots, wins the game. That player gets to say "Winner Winner.Chicken Dinner" and gets to choose the next shooting spot. Winning player must go to the end of the line and shoot last in the next game.
Match Me.......This game can be played for infinity. It's a great game for two players but can be played by any number. One player says,"Match me." and shoots from anywhere on the floor. If he hits his shot, the other player must shoot from the same spot. If the second player hits his shot, he has matched the other player. If he misses, he did not match him. this is a warm up game for HORSE.
PIG or GOAT or HORSE-This is a match game. A player must shoot at the same spot as the person in front of him if that person makes his shot. Players number themselves so that they who is in front of them in shooting order. If the player in front of you makes his shot, you must shoot from the same spot. If you miss the shot that the player in front of you just hit, you will receive a letter. For example, you would receive a P if you were playing PIG. After missing 3 times, you would have received P-I-G and would have to leave the game. The last person in the game- wins.
It is important to me that my children can play indoor games with no cheating and when they have a problem, they can settle their disputes and arguments without shouting and fighting. We have learned that if there is a disagreement, we can settle it with a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Today, I am going to teach you another game that is similar to this. It is called the Odd-Even Game.
One player will choose ODD or EVEN. Each player will use one hand but unlike the Rock Paper Scissor Game, you may use 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 fingers. Instead of saying Rock Paper Scissors GO! We will count 1-2-3-GO. You may throw any number of fingers on one hand. Your opponent will throw the same. Add all fingers up on both hands and if the total number of fingers is even, the person that chose even wins. If the total number of fingers is an odd number, the person that chose odd wins. Even numbers are 2, 4, 6 , 8 and 10. Odd numbers are 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. Winning player gets to choose odd or even on the next game.
An alternative game for my third fourth and fifth graders is to call even or odd and multiply your hands together. Winner gets to call odd or even.
I couldn't get this video to download last week. This is how we play on our pavilion Hopscotch squares.
Run in Place: Today we are going to run in place again but without stopping in between runs. So let's get started.........We are going to start WALKING IN PLACE. We are going to walk for 20 seconds. At the end of 20 seconds, we are going to start JOGGING for 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, we are going to RUN for 10 seconds- I mean run hard!- OK. Now we are slowing down to a JOG for 10 seconds and we are going to walk for 20 seconds.
We are going to HOP for 15 seconds.
We are going to GALLOP for 15 seconds.
Now SKIP around the house for 30 seconds.
Server always stands in square 1. Server must bounce the ball in square 1 before serving underhanded to square 4.
After the ball bounces 1 time in Square 4, Player 4 must hit the ball to any other square. (1, 2, or 3.)
If the ball touches twice in a player's square, he is out and must go to the end of the playing line. All player must enter into Square 1.
When a player leaves the game, he will go to the end of the line and the first player in line will go to #1 square and become the server.
When a player leaves the game, all players will advance one number if that Square is available. (#1 will go to #2. #2 will go to #3 square. #3 to #4). If #2 player is ousted, #1 will move to #2 but #3 and #4 will stay in their squares because there were no empty squares available. If player #3 is ousted, players #1 goes to #2 square and #2 goes to #3. #4 Square is not open. If #4 is ousted, all player move up to the next number.
If a player can stay in #4 Square for Five(5) consecutive serves without getting knocked out, that player is King or Queen of the Court. All players must high five and bow down to the King or Queen BUT Player #4 must now leave and go to the end of the line and start over.
Date Assigned: 04/01/2020
Run in one spot (Run in Place) run for 20 seconds. Rest for 20 seconds, run for 20 seconds, Rest for 20 seconds, Run for 15 seconds, Rest for 20 seconds, Run for 10 seconds, Rest for 20 seconds, Run for 5 seconds, Rest .
Sit Ups- Do 10 Sit Ups. You may have someone hold your feet or you can put your feet under the sofa or bed or chair.
Push ups- Do 5 Push Ups. You may have your knees on the ground. Push all the way up and all the way down.
Finish by Running in Place again.
Rock, Paper Scissors Game.......I want you to play the Rock Paper Scissors Game with your family. I know that you have been inside for a long time and might be there for even longer than we think. I know that you might be fighting with you brothers ad sisters by now. Use Rock Paper Scissors instead of yelling at each other. It's a fair game but someone has to step up and say, "We have an argument. Let's do Rock Paper Scissors one time. Winner wins the argument." We settle all arguments with Rock Paper Scissors.
Make a Ladder Hopscotch Game........If you look at a ladder, it has squares stacked in a row. These squares are about 15 inches each. We are going to take our sidewalk chalk or some masking tape and make a hopscotch ladder. Cut a piece of cardboard into a 15" square. Put it on the concrete driveway and outline it with your sidewalk chalk. move your cardboard up and make another. Make 8 squares. Now number the squares 1 through 8.
RULES......You will need a Marker. You can use anything with a flat side: a rock, an eraser, a beanbag, a toy, etc. Throw the marker into number 2 square. Now ump into number one and pick up the marker. You have to pick up the marker before jumping into number 2 square. Now ump into 2,3,4,5,6,7, and 8 and OUT. On your next turn, throw the marker into number 3 square. Jump into number 1 then number 2 square. Pick up your marker. Jump into 3,4,5,6,7,8 squares and out. Continue to throw into the next numbered square until you have thrown into all 8 squares and hopped out. If you fall, you must start over.
