Mrs. Ciliberto grew up in Yorktown and attended neighboring district Lakeland High School. She then attended Montclair State University where she received her Master's Degree in Health Education. After serving in leave-replacements with the Pelham School District, Mrs. Ciliberto began her job teaching health education at Yorktown High School in the Fall of 2014.
In 2018, Mrs. Ciliberto developed the Husker Discovery course for 9th-grade students at YHS. After a very successful pilot year, Husker Discovery was added as a semester course intended to help with the transition to high school, mental health, and academic success. Mrs. Ciliberto believes that having a positive mindset can help bring positivity into your life. She tries to live her life promoting kindness and helping students identify their strengths so that they can have successful futures. Mrs. Ciliberto is extremely passionate about Husker Discovery and hopes that her students can feel how much she cares about them.
Husker Discovery
Adjusting to high school can be a strenuous and challenging task for most students. Students are adjusting to a new school, new academic demands, and the pressure of everyday teenage life. Husker Discovery is designed to address the many issues that students face when entering high school and to provide them with the necessary skills to adjust successfully. This course will help students feel more connected to our school and develop more confidence in who they are as a person, a student and as a global citizen. The course will encourage self-care and will provide an environment where students can develop a sense of identity and awareness, discuss current issues and utilize the Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents (STEPS-A) curriculum to successfully navigate stressful life events, cope with emotional dysregulation, develop and maintain important family, peer and social relationships.
Health Education
General areas to be covered are physical, mental and emotional, social and community health. Skill development in communication, advocacy, decision making, self management, stress-management planning, goal setting and relationship management is addressed.
Online Health Education
Health education motivates students to improve and maintain health literacy, including improving knowledge, and developing life skills that are conducive to individual and community wellbeing. The online course runs asynchronously through Google Classroom. All assignments will be completed online. Students will be responsible for visiting the online classroom daily and completing multiple assignments per week within a strict and set time frame. A student who takes online health should be a self-motivated learner and familiar with all Google Workspaces
Nutrition Elective
Proper nutrition is key to optimizing both physical and mental well-being. In this course, you will learn the science behind the food you eat, how food safety can impact your kitchen, food related stress management, and how the balance of nutrients may change based on other factors in your life. Students are given freedom of choice and urged to explore their own relationship with food to enhance the quality of their lives.
Relationship Management Elective
This health elective explores the skills needed to build and maintain healthy relationships in all areas of life—family, friends, romantic partners, coworkers, and beyond. Students will learn effective communication, conflict resolution, setting boundaries, emotional intelligence, and how to navigate social dynamics in both personal and professional settings. Through real-world scenarios and reflective activities, this course empowers students to develop stronger, more respectful, and supportive connections with others.
