Drop-Off/Pick-Up

Students may not change their home bus for any reason other than an emergency.  Any change in dismissal due to an emergency must be approved by the principal, Mr. Cassarini.

Students may be dropped off between 8:45 and 9 a.m. in the loop at the back of the school.  After 9 a.m., students must be brought in through the main lobby and signed in as late.  All students are to ride home or to childcare on their assigned bus or be picked up from school by a parent or authorized designee.  Pick up will begin in the main lobby at 3:10 p.m.

Last-minute dismissal changes should be a rare occasion.  We must have on file the names of all parties who have your permission to pick up your child from school and/or the bus stop.  Please be sure to keep your information up to date in the Parent Portal.  Emergency dismissal changes needed after 1 p.m. should also be called into the Health Office of the school to ensure that we didn’t miss your email.

Please know that there must be an adult available to accept your child off of the bus in the afternoon.  If no one is available, then your child will be brought back to Brookside.  Parents will be contacted and it is expected that students are picked up by 4 p.m.

Letter from Principal Cassarini

Dear Brookside Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! It only seems like moments ago that I was writing a letter for the 22-23 year. But here we are, on the verge of another terrific school year.

As usual, the summers are busy at Brookside. The custodial staff and Facilities Department are completing a deep cleansing of the entire building. There have been some relatively minor renovations and structural work to create more small learning spaces and improve the overall functioning of the building. In addition, members of the faculty and staff have been engaged in professional growth opportunities. We have also added some new faculty and staff members to the Brookside family in the areas of Special Education, Related Services, and Certified Teaching Assistants.

Your child’s class placement and bus information will be available via the parent portal on Friday, August 25th at 3:00 pm.  You can find the link to access this information on the district’s website by clicking the large icon labeled PARENT PORTAL.  If you have not yet created an account or are having difficulty accessing the portal please click on the large icon labeled TECH HELP.  Once you know your child’s teacher, you will be able to access their welcome letter and school supply list on their webpage.

Unfortunately, the PTA has not been able to establish a viable partnership with a vendor capable of providing parents with the ability to purchase school supply kits that are customized for each classroom teacher.  We recognize that such a partnership serves a number of parents and students in a relatively easy and convenient manner. For the future, we will continue to search for a reliable vendor who can serve our back-to-school needs.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.  Please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.  I may be reached at 914-243-8130 or via email at jcassarini@yorktown.org.  Again, on behalf of the entire Brookside Staff, I welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year and look forward to a happy and successful year!

Sincerely,

Joseph J. Cassarini
