Drop-Off/Pick-Up
Students may not change their home bus for any reason other than an emergency. Any change in dismissal due to an emergency must be approved by the principal, Mr. Cassarini.
Students may be dropped off between 8:45 and 9 a.m. in the loop at the back of the school. After 9 a.m., students must be brought in through the main lobby and signed in as late. All students are to ride home or to childcare on their assigned bus or be picked up from school by a parent or authorized designee. Pick up will begin in the main lobby at 3:10 p.m.
Last-minute dismissal changes should be a rare occasion. We must have on file the names of all parties who have your permission to pick up your child from school and/or the bus stop. Please be sure to keep your information up to date in the Parent Portal. Emergency dismissal changes needed after 1 p.m. should also be called into the Health Office of the school to ensure that we didn’t miss your email.
Please know that there must be an adult available to accept your child off of the bus in the afternoon. If no one is available, then your child will be brought back to Brookside. Parents will be contacted and it is expected that students are picked up by 4 p.m.
August 2025
Dear Brookside Families,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! I hope that you are all enjoying a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the upcoming school year.
As is always the case, the summers are busy at Brookside and this one has certainly not been an exception. We are in the process of finishing off our annual deep cleaning and preparation of the building. In addition, the custodial team has been preparing for our expansion project which will add 6 classrooms to the building in two locations. We are on schedule and expect the construction to commence in the upcoming months. I will keep you apprised as the renovation progresses. In addition, members of the faculty and staff have been engaged in professional growth opportunities and curriculum development.
Our PTA Executive Board has been off to a fast start and planning is well underway for an exciting year of fun events and activities for the entire Brookside community. Mrs. Luciana Haughwout will be serving as the President of the Brookside PTA.
Your child’s class placement and bus information will be available via the parent portal on Friday, August 22nd at approximately midday. You can find the link to access this information on the district’s website by clicking the large icon labeled PARENT PORTAL. If you have not yet created an account or are having difficulty accessing the portal please click on the large icon labeled TECH HELP. Once you know your child’s teacher, you will be able to access their welcome letter and school supply list on their webpage.
Please note that a lunch will be provided to every student without charge. Additional lunch items, snacks, or beverages may be purchased through the MySchoolBucks account. To ensure celebrations that are safe for all of our students, birthday treats provided by parents will be permitted but only if purchased through the district’s food service. However we strongly encourage alternatives to food treats to celebrate birthdays, such as crafts or read alouds. Be aware that the sharing of food items between students is strongly discouraged. Also know that our School adheres to the YCSD Wellness Policy, and that policy prohibits products containing peanuts or tree nuts to be sold or distributed. You may refer to the policy guidelines and regulations, as well as our nurse’s webpage for further information.
I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. I may be reached at 914-243-8130 or via email at jcassarini@yorktown.org. Again, on behalf of the entire Brookside Staff, I welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year and look forward to a happy and successful year!
Sincerely,
Joseph J. Cassarini
