The York Dukes opened the season Thursday night (8/25) at Camp Kateri (near McCool Junction). York raced against McCool Junction, Milford, Centennial, and Fillmore Central. The meet has a unique format, the girls have a 2:15 headstart on the boys and the two races begin to merge about halfway through the race. The races are also only 3 kilometers in distance, as opposed to 5 kilometers for most races. No team scores were calculated for the meet.
Junior Kassidy Stuckey won the girls' race in 11:20.7. She broke the course record by nearly 20 seconds (previously 11:39.6 held by Julia Lee from York). Kassidy went out strong and maintained a strong pace over the second half of the race. Joining Kassidy in the top 3 was Milford's Lilly Kenning (2nd, 11:52.8) and McCool Junction's Payton Gerken (3rd, 12:19.6). Stuckey, Kenning, and Gerken were all State Medalists in their respective classes last season.
