COVID-19 Response

Continuing his efforts to protect the health and safety of students and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, on April 9, 2020, Governor Tom Wolf announced that all schools will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-20 academic year. Click here to learn more. In addition, the Pennsylvania Depart of Education cancelled all testing and Keystone exams. The Department of Education approved Pennsylvania’s waiver request and further waived accountability and reporting requirements for the 2019-20 school year.

Please visit review the York Academy Continuity of Education Plan for information regarding instructional practices and expectations for the remainder of the school year. Grap and go meals will continue to be available each school day between 11:30am - 12:30pm in the Lower School staff lot.

What can families do to cope during the COVID-19 shutdown?

The outbreak of COVID-19 demonstrates our interconnectedness. We all play an important role in protecting ourselves and others. Please continue to do your part by following the preventative recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC):

FOLLOW THE PREVENTATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL (CDC):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

  • Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow. Do not use your hands!

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are touched frequently, such as countertops, light switches, and cell phones.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Follow Governor Wolf's “Stay at Home” order. (3/30/2020)

How is York Academy assisting families during the pandemic?

YORK ACADEMY WILL CONTINUE EDUCATING STUDENTS VIA DISTANCE LEARNING THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR.

  • Please review the information in the York Academy Continuity of Education Plan for detailed information about how the Academy will continue to operate for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

  • York Academy recognizes that families have different resources available at home. Our teachers will work with students and families individually to ensure that all learning opportunities are equitably available for all students in class. If your family does not have internet access at home, please these resources for about internet at home. Xfinity is also providing free access to WiFi hotspots. Click here, enter your zip code to find the closest hotspot and follow the process to enable your device(s) to access it.

  • To provide additional support for the community, York Academy’s Food Services Department will offer free grab and go bagged meals on regularly scheduled school days from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Families may pick up these meals in the rear parking lot of the Lower School. Please access the lot from Cherry Lane, pull up to the tables, and our Food Services Team will bring the meals to your vehicle. All children 18 and under are welcome to participate.

      • Per the federal government, York Academy students NO LONGER have to be present during meal pickup. That means that our parents/guardians may pick up the meals to take home to their children. Please note that one meal per child will be distributed each day.

      • We will also continue to serve students from other districts, but per the new guidelines, the children MUST be present in the vehicle to receive the free meals. One meal per child will be distributed each day.
