Context: Constellations were a huge part of early navigation and mythology and not many kids know a lot about them. The goal of this project is to introduce some basic constellations to them.
materials needed:
black paint
white paint
2 paintbrushes
cardboard box or a shoebox
pencil (mechanical works best)
3m strips (velcro)
Materials provided:
string of lights (battery included)
pamphlet of constellations.
steps:
pick 3 constellations from the pamphlet
cut out three, 10 by 6 inch rectangles of cardboard.
paint 1 side black
once black paint dries paint white circles where main stars of constellations would be
poke holes with the pencil into the white circles big enough to see through
put lights against the holes so they are shining through the holes.
tape the back of the lights in place
If you feel up to it use 3m strips to put the constellations on the wall.
