Come show off your work!
PGRs all do amazing work... and we want to see it!
We are holding a showcase of all your research here in the CS Pod on 16th May.
There are a number of ways in which you can participate:
Posters- you can submit an A0 academic poster (in .pdf form) about an experiment you did, something you created or even a short literature review on your field! Posters will be presented during our poster session.
Short Presentations- you can give a 5-15 minute presentation on your research!
Demonstration- you can show off your work in real-time!
Attend on the day- if you do not wish to present your work we would love you to attend so you can support your peers, take inspiration, and learn something new!
This is also a great opportunity for Undergraduate students to come and see what you can achieve if you do a PhD, so register your interest to come and have a look!
For both attending and presenting, you must register your attendance using the form. Doing so ensures we have your name badge and meal ready for you on the day, as well as planning the schedule for the day!
If you have selected that you wish to participate, you will have until 1st May at 5pm to send your posters (in.pdf form) and presentation slides to cs-pgr-committee-group@york.ac.uk. This allows us time to print your posters and have presentations ready for you on the day!
The event will begin registration at 9:00am on 16th May in the CS Pod (CSE082/083). The first session will take place at 10am. If you can't attend the whole day, there will be a schedule on this page so you can choose to drop in and out of sessions as you please!
The tentative timetable for the day is below.

Reviewing 101 will teach you how to review paper submissions for conferences and journals. Reviewing is a key part of every conference that ensures the integrity and quality of scholarly publications. Being able to give effective (and constructive!) feedback to authors is a key skill for researchers, so you can find out how it's done in this session.
When: 12:00-16:00 on Monday 26th February 2024 Where: CSE/102&103 Presented By: Matt Young
Academic writing is an essential skill for all researchers for disseminating research findings effectively. The "Writing Retreat" will provide you with practical strategies to enhance your writing skills, focusing on clarity, coherence, and the effective communication of complex ideas. You will also have the opportunity to get writing!

Presenting is a large part of every conference, and a key skill that all researchers will have to acquire during their PhD. The "How to give an Effective Presentation" session will give you the opportunity to learn what an effective and informative presentation features, and some presenting tips and tricks.
When: 14:00-15:00 on Wednesday 3rd April 2024 Where: CSE/102&103 Presented By: Holly Hendry
Poster sessions are a key part of many conferences, so having the skills to create an effective and eye-catching poster is vital for your PhD. In the "How to make an Effective Poster" session, you will learn the principles of designing visually appealing and informative posters, along with tips for successfully presenting them to an audience. You'll also get a chance to practice your new skills.
York CS Research Showcase 2023
PGR's all gathered to show off their work last year for the first annual York CS Research Showcase 2023! We had a large range of fields within the department that all displayed their impressive research. Here's what some of the attendees thought:
"The Showcase was an interesting insight into other people's work."
"Being able to present at the Showcase was a great training opportunity, and I loved hearing feedback on my work!"

How can I get my poster printed?
We are able to print your poster for you! Once you have confirmed your attendance and sent your poster to cs-pgr-committee-group+showcase@york.ac.uk, we will do the rest. All you have to bring on the day is yourself!
I am a distance student and still wish to present, is this possible?
Of course! The York CS Research Showcase is a hybrid event with an active Zoom link throughout the day. You can, therefore, give your presentation through Zoom.
Is this a catered event?
Of course! We will provide lunch and a coffee break. Catering will be reserved for those who register their attendance before the deadline. If you have any dietary issues, please declare this on the registration form.
Is there a competition?
We are awarding two certificates and prizes to the Best Poster and the Best Presentation of the day! You will have the chance to vote on your favourite during the day, and there will be a prize giving at the end of the day!
I've never made a poster/ presentation before! What do I do?!
We will be holding training sessions in preparation for this event. The details and materials can be seen on this page.
