Call for Papers
Call for Papers
We welcome proposals from postgraduate researchers, specifically those who are currently enrolled as PhD students or were enrolled as PhD students at any point during 2023, for 20-minute presentations of research that uses conversation analysis, interactional linguistics, or a related methodology. The focus should be on naturally occurring social interaction. The research must be based on audio-video recordings. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by a 10-minute discussion period.
While the primary format for this event is in-person participation, we acknowledge the diverse circumstances of researchers. Thus, there may be limited opportunities for remote participation. We may consider including a select number of short pre-recorded video presentations to be shared online. However, please note that this option is contingent upon the nature and volume of submissions received and, therefore, cannot be guaranteed. Details regarding this potential aspect of participation will be communicated following the review of submissions.
Abstract guidance
Clearly describe the interactional phenomenon or practise your paper analyses.
Briefly describe the data, collection, and specific methods used.
Summarise the study's main findings or conclusions, however tentative.
Include a brief transcript and a short sample analysis which highlights how the transcript illustrates the phenomenon or practice.
Consider the wider contribution and implication of the research.
Limit your abstract to 300 words (excluding the transcript, but including the analysis).
Please do not put your name, email address, or affiliation on the document (to facilitate a double blind review process).
Submission deadline for abstracts is Friday 5th April 2024
Notification of acceptance
Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent via email in late April and early May 2024. Early notification is provided to enable visa holders to attend.
