Sign-up for an Interview

Interviews with workshop participants are an important part of my research. I would love to find out more about your experience taking part in the workshops. Please sign-up for an interview at a time that suits you. Slots are available from Thursday 16th July to Thursday 23rd July at a range of times. Please let me know if none of the dates/times work for you.

Interviews will take place either online via Zoom, or in-person at the AudioLab: Genesis 6, Innovation Way, University of York, YO10 5DQ. You can indicate your preference when you sign up. You can choose to take part in an in-person interview even if you were an online participant (and vice versa).

Interview Questions

Please take some time to consider your answers to the questions in advance of the interview. These questions are also available as a Word document (in large print).

• What were your expectations of the workshops before attending?

• How were your expectations met or not met?

• What have you disliked about the process of being involved in the workshops?

• What would have made the workshops easier for you to engage with, contribute to and enjoy?

• What have you liked about the process of being involved in the workshops?

• How did you feel about being consulted on the history content and the delivery of the content (rather than only being consulted about accessibility)?

• How did you find the experience of completing a workshop reflection at the end of each workshop?

• Some of the outputs of this research (such as research papers and the PhD thesis) will be aimed at an academic audience. I also plan to create some outputs that are aimed at a more general audience (such as talks, videos, podcasts or blogs). What types of output would you be interested in?

• What language do you prefer to use in reference to your disability/disabilities? Disability-first (i.e. disabled person) or person-first (i.e. person with a disability)?

• Is there anything that you would like to ask me?

Payment for Workshops and Interviews

This information is for Online participants and In-person participants who have not yet been paid in full. If you are an In-person participant who has already been paid for taking part, you can ignore this information.

If you take part in an in-person interview, you can choose to be paid in cash, or via a digital One4All gift voucher. Please let me know which payment method you would like.

If you take part in an online interview, you will be paid via a digital One4All gift voucher. Apologies that this is the only option available, it is because we are unable to post cash to you.

Attending an in-person interview at the AudioLab:

How do I get to the AudioLab?

The address of the AudioLab is: Genesis 6, Innovation Way, The University of York, Heslington, York YO10 5DQ.

You can take a look at Genesis 6 on Google Street View to help you plan your route.

Car

Parking is available outside the building; this includes accessible parking spaces. If you are planning to drive to the interview, please email me (jess.schofield@york.ac.uk) with your number plate so that I can book parking for you.

Rail

From York Station, you can get the U1 or U2 bus, the nearest bus stop to Genesis 6 is Heslington Hall. There will also be taxis available outside the station.

Bus

The nearest bus stop to Genesis 6 is Heslington Hall, which is serviced by the U1 and U2 bus. You can see the timetable on the FirstBus website. According to Google Maps, the bus stop is a 5 minute walk from Genesis 6.

Claiming Travel Expenses

In-person interviewees are able to claim travel expenses for the journey from your home, to the AudioLab, and back. If you have travelled by car, you can claim expenses for mileage. If you have travelled bus or taxi you can claim back the cost of the journey provided you have a ticket/receipt. If you have travelled by rail, you can claim back the cost of a standard class ticket provided you have a receipt. You will be reimbursed by BACS bank transfer.

You will need to fill out the expenses claim form and send it to the lead researcher jess.schofield@york.ac.uk. Unfortunately this form is not in an accessible format. I will have paper copies of the form available at the interview and will be available to help you to fill out the form either on paper or online if needed.

Where do I go when I arrive?

I will be waiting to meet you outside the AudioLab. Please enter via the main entrance using the steps or the ramp. You need to visit the information desk to sign in. Let the visitor experience team know that you are here to take part in the workshop and they will help you to sign in and direct you to the room.

The workshop will take place in the Fairfax room, the room can be accessed through a door to the left of the reception desk (as you face it). You can use Google Street View to take a look inside the room.

Accessibility at the AudioLab

The interview room is on the ground floor of the AudioLab, and wheelchair accessible. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor. The doors to the building are not automatic, but I will be able to assist with opening doors if required.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be available. Refreshments include:

• Tea/Decaf Tea

• Coffee

• Milk or Oat Milk

• White/Brown Sugar or Sweetener

• Water

• Biscuits

Cups will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own cup. You are also welcome to bring your own drink or snack.
