Identification of degraded rangelands
Community led identifcaiton of degraded communal grazing areas.
An initial 100Ha of pilot areas followed by an additional 400Ha in the 2nd and 3rd years of the project
Rangeland restoration activities
Restoring rangeland will impove species abundance and diversity. Rangeland Guardians will lead these activies
Livestock monitoring
GPS tagging (collars) of 100 heads of cattle, sheep and goasts across the the study villages. The aim is to identify how the wider landscape is being used by pastoralists in relation to wider scale degradation patterns, to help inform rangeland management
Biodiversity surveys
Regular biodiversity assessments to monitor changes in rangeland condtion, including: vegetation structure, bird point counts, butterfly transects and sweep net transects in all restoration areas.
Additional vegetation assessments will be carried out across the landscape by trained Resource Assessors
