Statement of purpose
This masters programme aims to develop your knowledge, skills and experience in the field of mental health research. You will study a number of core modules designed to introduce you to common concepts and approaches in mental health research and practice, and you will develop the research skills you will need to succeed in this field. Whether you choose to go on to further study, research or clinical practice, you will graduate as a critically reflective practitioner, able to make informed judgements based on sound analysis, often within unpredictable circumstances. You will have the opportunity to conduct your own independent research during the course, and you will be encouraged to publish and share your research findings. Throughout the programme you will be supported by experts in the field who are actively engaged in research focused on mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and psychosis and during your time at York, you will be part of a leading UK centre for mental health research. Graduates will be confident to make a difference to the lives of people affected by mental health problems and addictions both directly and through the development of new knowledge.
