If you have questions about which modules you should take, contact your supervisor for advice. You should meet with your supervisor in Weeks 3/4 to discuss your choices. Only after they approve your choices will you be sent a link to register them online.
For questions about the specific requirements of your programme, contact the relevant Programme Leader:
Linguistics; English Language & Linguistics; English & Linguistics; Philosophy & Linguistics : James Tompkinson <james.tompkinson@york.ac.uk>
All languages programmes (and combined programmes with a languages component) : Angela O'Flaherty <angela.oflaherty@york.ac.uk>
For questions about the module choice process or other issues, contact the Chair of the Education Committee <lls-cdec@york.ac.uk>.
Is it possible to take an extra module that goes beyond the credit requirements? This is technically possible yes, but we would organise it outside of the main module choice process, and it may depend on availability of places on the module you want to join on a 'not for credit' basis. Contact your supervisor (cc'ing the Chair of Board of the Education Committee) if you'd like to do this.
Does everyone have to do a dissertation? No. Most of our programmes don't include a compulsory dissertation or independent study module. The combined programme English & Linguistics, has an optional dissertation module, but it is not a requirement. However, if you're interested in having a dissertation-like experience, consider doing a Research Extension.
Are language students able to take English language modules? Anyone on any degree in our department can take an English Language module if you have 'space' in your programme for options. Check the programme outline for your degree to see if you have that 'space'. You may need to choose options which meet other requirements though (e.g., a certain number of language modules) and that might limit how many English Language modules you can take. If you want reassurance for your specific degree programme, contact the Programme Leader for your programme (see above).
