The course was held at the University of São Paulo. Half of those participants represented federal or municipality government agencies, who are directly involved in the design or performance of evaluation of public policies. In total, the event had representatives from three different Brazilian regions (Midwest, Southeast and South).
The course took place over three full days in which the activities alternated between lectures and practical exercises. The main goal was to cover the fundamental tools of cost-effectiveness analysis. In this way, the participants learned the key principles of decision modelling in health economics and the methodology used to develop and implement mathematical models to estimate the health consequences and cost impacts of health interventions.
The Brazil GHE2 team recognises that the interest in cost-effectiveness health analysis among Brazilian policy makers is growing, particularly within regulation agencies such as the Federal Court of Accounts. Therefore, this short course also worked to bring together stakeholders and identify the most relevant topics for the Brazilian context and policy maker’s demands.
The feedback from the participants was positive, with more than 70% of them ranking the content and exercises with maximum grade (“great”). Many of them are looking forward to the next GHE2 events and expressed a will to engage in activities in a collaborative way.
“ [The course] showed a comprehensive and detailed view of the possibilities in economic modelling”
“The main positives points of the course were the speakers availability and knowledge, besides the exercises’ useful templates”
