The Enhancing the PGR Journey project is an initiative designed to conduct an in-depth exploration of the most effective practices for supporting postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across departments, schools, institutes and other equivalent ‘homes’ within the University of York. The project seeks to establish a comprehensive toolkit outlining a variety of successful strategies and initiatives taking place specifically in relation to the packages of support for PGRs, including:
PGR Induction
PGR Community
Wellbeing Support
Career development
Academic Skills Training
The Enhancing the PGR Journey toolkit will contribute to the achievement of key strategic objectives identified as areas for development within the action plans created by the institutional Research Culture Action Plan, the PGR Careers plan, and the York Graduate Research School.
A key aim of the project is to provide guidance on how existing support can be refined in realistic ways. The recommendations made within this toolkit identify a selection of practical and achievable initiatives and strategies which can be used to enhance current packages of support. The toolkit also emphasises examples of best practice institution-wide, drawing attention to and celebrating the effective strategies taking place that contribute to a supportive research culture.
