History

There is a long history of research into artificial intelligence and machine learning research at York. The current Artificial Intelligence Group was founded as a merger between the Intelligent Systems and Machine Learning groups in 1999. There was a strong tradition of research in the Computer Science Department into machine learning. optimisation and constraint satisfaction even before this.

The group has qualified well over 100 PhD students and currently consists of 6 academics, 3 researchers and around 20 PhD students.
