Exploring the social implications of AI and autonomous systems
‘think slowly and fix things’
The AIS Lab is an open group for researchers and practitioners in the University of York that are interested in the social implications of AI and autonomous systems (AS). AIS Lab is a leading centre for deep reflection on, and insightful solutions to, issues pertaining to AI in Society. Providing a space for shared events, facilitating research collaboration, and grants.
The Lab is also a great place to find expertise in difference aspects of the social and ethical impacts of AI and AS, and you can search the membership directory to find people to connect with.
AIS Lab’s aim is to work towards a change where AI works for and with us and is not done ‘to’ us. This extends to all groups in society, not only the privileged or elites. AI crosses all the social, cultural and technical divides in our society by shaping the opportunity space for everyone. It matters to all of us, everywhere, present and future.
Our vision is for engineers and developers to no longer think of ethics and social issues as externalities or side-constraints but instead see it as fundamental to every choice and decision we make as human beings.
