The 'Equity in postgraduate study' project seeks to reduce unequal access to postgraduate study. Studies have shown that those from underrepresented backgrounds have limited access to networks which can not just demystify, but also encourage them to consider, postgraduate education. This project seeks to fill this gap. It will adopt a targeted approach to:
1) illustrate exactly what pursuing postgraduate study entails
2) detail the different pathways one can take to enter into postgraduate study
3) provide practical advice and resources on how to pursue the different postgraduate options (Masters and PhDs)
The project is titled 'Equity in Postgraduate Study'. It takes a broad understanding of EDI. Any prospective PG student who possesses one of the nine Protected Characteristics outlined in the 2010 Equality Act is welcome to engage with the project, as are those who are care-leavers, carers for family members, or who are from economically deprived backgrounds (e.g., received free school meals). For more information about EDI at York, please see the University of York EDI glossary.
