In honor of my teachers Joanna Macy, Malidoma Somé, Martín Prectel, and Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés.
Grieving is a natural human experience that allows the expression of sadness, loneliness, anger, despair, and other feelings. The more we open ourselves to love others - to celebrate the beauty of our world - the more we open ourselves to the pain of losing what and who we love.
Some grief can only be tended together. When we tend to our grief with others, we may hear a different layer of truth—that the grief we carry is not ours alone, and then the process of letting go can begin.
There are many forms of grief. We include all painful feelings—sorrow, anger, fear, loneliness, despair, guilt, frustration, and more. Although there are many sources of grief, from the natural losses of life to the shocks of sudden bereavement or relationship breakdowns, from the daily hurts and bruising of modern life to our pain for the state of the world and the suffering of others, there are many ways our grief is stirred.
Your feelings are welcomed and honored from whichever wellspring of our humanity they flow.
