When the campus is temporarily closed, YIS teachers continue to provide learning materials and activities that maintain the YIS planned curriculum. Learning will continue to emphasize interaction, inquiry, response, practice and creativity. These activities will involve both technology and materials readily available at home.
Continuous Learning in the DP is intended to provide learning materials and assessment opportunities that follow the current written course outlines and IB DP syllabi in order to maintain learning and readiness for internal and external assessments.
Learning materials are shared via Google Classroom.
Learning activities are engaging, inquiry-based explorations.
Learning activities may be completed:
independently online
collaboratively online, via chat, video conference or other collaborative tools
Learning engagements have a number of purposes:
allow students to engage with new learning
practice, discuss or apply learning
demonstrate knowledge and skills in relation to learning
Learning connects to current units.
Assessment tasks enable student to demonstrate their understanding.
Students
Establish a daily routine to support your learning.
Identify a comfortable, quiet space so you can work effectively and successfully.
Check your email, Veracross Student Portal and Google Classroom frequently.
Participate in daily tutor group Google Meet check-ins and relevant subject Sync Sessions published in the MS/HS Daily, which is found on Veracross student portal. Make sure to turn on your video and to notify your teacher if unable to participate.
Complete tasks/activities on which you can receive feedback (either online or during the next class meeting, as indicated in instructions).
Participate in online collaborative learning activities with your peers.
Complete assessment tasks.
Take breaks, play, rest, be active.
Communicate proactively with your teachers. Ask questions, and be patient when waiting for a response. If a teacher emails you, respond in a timely manner. You can use email or Google Chat.
Communicate with your friends and classmates regularly.
Be mindful of your workload and wellbeing. If you have any concerns, contact your tutor or counsellor.

Be present and active in tutor and subject Sync Sessions, and complete online learning activities - this allows you to keep up with your learning and be marked as 'Present-Continuous Learning' in Veracross.
Families
Ask questions, talk about learning, upcoming deadlines, and workload.
Help your child develop daily routines.
Encourage your child to take study breaks and to take part in physical exercise.
Be mindful of your child’s wellbeing; speak to them regularly about concerns or challenges.
Communicate any concerns to your child’s tutor, teacher or counsellor via email.
Help choose a learning location that is suitable to be seen by peers and teachers if students are using video tools.
Check that your child is interacting with peers and maintaining connections with their school community.
Ensure students are dressed appropriately when using video tools.
If there are siblings simultaneously online, choose locations that do not cause noise interference when recording learning or video conferencing.
If your child is unable to participate in online learning on a particular day, make sure that his/her tutor is informed so that attendance in Veracross may be updated.
Teachers
Post learning materials for the lessons scheduled in Veracross for the four classes that day by 9:00am (JST).
Plan learning activities that are easily understood and implemented by students.
Provide learning activities that include time away from devices.
Provide reflection and feedback in the process of posting student learning on Google Classroom.
Make themselves available via email/Google Chat to answer questions about the learning activities and ongoing student work, according to the Veracross schedule for the day, between 9:30am-11:45am and 1:45 - 4:00pm.
Post assessments on the Veracross Assignment calendar so colleagues, students and parents can all see them and plan workload accordingly.
Provide 24 hours notice of any Google Meet Sync Sessions on the MS/HS Daily on Veracross.
Provide GoogleMeet sync sessions that are between 5min check-in or up to 30min.
Alternate 2 x asynchronous, 1 x synchronous lessons to ensure a balance of flexible learning and structured time, maximum of 1 sync session each week
Follow the current YIS assessment practices, including advance notice for assessments.
Record attendance in Veracross as per the relevant protocol.
Tutors
Check in daily at 9:00am with their tutor group. Take attendance in Veracross.
Maintain regular communication with their tutor group.
Help your tutees make connections with their group to maintain wellbeing and peer relationships.
