2024-25 College Recommnedation

You need to speak to me in person first. Please do not assume that I’ll write you a recommendation. After speaking and confirming that I'm willing, please fill the request form by completing the Google Form provided below.

If you wish to request a college recommendation from Mr. Yim, please complete this form. There are times when I have to conduct a lottery due to the high number of requests. You are more likely to be selected if you have achieved at least a B- or higher in my class and have DEMONSTRATED a high level of maturity (i.e., resilience and responsibility), a sense of community, intellectual honesty, and a love of learning.

I expect you to answer every question truthfully, without omission or misrepresentation, so read the questions carefully.

If there is a high number of requests, I will randomly select from the list of qualified candidates.

Please keep in mind that unless I taught you in your junior year, I will not consider writing a recommendation for you unless there is a special reason.

Last but not least, keep your responses succinct.

Submission Deadline: Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 11 PM.

After the drawing, I will let you know if I am willing to write a recommendation for you.

2025 Summer Recommnedation

You need to speak to me in person first. Please do not assume that I’ll write you a recommendation. After speaking and confirming that I'm willing, please fill the request form by completing the Google Form. To access the google form, you need to be logged into the school account. 

I will write no more than three summer recommendations. If you are asking another teacher for summer recommendation, then I'll not write one for you.

Some of you will be applying to summer internships or summer programs that require recommendations from instructors. Think long and hard before applying to these internships. Most of the summer internships are highly competitive, sometimes with people applying from all over the world. You should have a STRONG interest in doing scientific research if you are applying to them (that is, not simply applying to boost your resumé).

Last, but not least. Keep your responses succinct. Your job is remind me why I want to write a recommendation for you. I maybe verbose, but I do not like to read long-winded responses.
