This is an exciting course which has been designed so that a balance between practical and theoretical knowledge will allow students to be creative; it encourages learners to cook and enables them to make informed decisions about food and nutrition.
GCSE Food and Nutrition
How is it assessed?
Assessment is made up of three units
Unit 1: Principles of Nutrition
1 hour 30 minutes on screen written examination
80 marks 40% of the qualification
Unit 2: Food Investigation
A non-examination assessment worth 20% of the qualification
10 hour task
Will involve practical experiment and written work
Unit 3: Food and Nutrition in Action
A non-examination assessment worth 40% of the qualification
A 15 hour task
Will involve research, planning, preparation and cooking of 3 dishes plus accompaniments.
