Monday, Nov 16

Today we started our new unit on Electromagnetic Radiation. Check out this clip. We brainstormed sources of EM radiation and questions and concerns we had.

Assignment for today: create a 2-minute news clip on a type of radiation from "your world" and how that type of radiation is making headlines (assignment handout in class).

Today we talked about light pollution and different wavelengths from the sun (UV and visible light), as well as the journey of a photon from the core of the Sun to Earth.

We finished off our 2-minute news clip and shared them with one other group in the class. We then created  mneumonics to help us remember the 7 types of EM radiation.

Wednesday, Nov 18

Period 1: we had a guest presenter today: Vikki Zsohar from the Yukon Astronomical Society! We learned about solar flares, the Earth's magnetosphere and neutron stars.

Period 2: We worked on Electromagnetic Radiation questions (find here).
