After School Counselor

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Enriched After-School Club’s program curriculum.

Essential Functions

  • Using the curriculum materials to support themes and lesson plans as it relates to the age group.
  • Monitor children at all times.
  • Making referrals to the Director and Assistant Director of any concerns regarding the child’s behavior.
  • Planning and providing necessary accommodations and/or services for those with special needs.
  • Evaluating each child’s performance and total development using appropriate assessments, such as observations, development tasks, profile to assure accurate diagnoses, written reporting, and parent conferences.
  • Participating in staff training sessions, while taking advantage of external training opportunities to improve professional development skills (NOTE: Y.E.P. requires at least 20 hours of training per year).
  • Performing other related duties as needed to maintain a certain professional level of quality learning (i.e. staff meetings, conferences, etc.).
  • Promoting effective child development tasks including:
      • Classroom management in an understanding, consistent, and positive manner.
      • Respecting individual child’s worth and dignity.
      • Encouraging creativity.
      • Promoting a positive attitude, around children, towards learning and self-image.
  • Displaying responsibility for being aware of safe lifting and bending procedures.
  • Displaying responsibility for reading all labels and following the specific directions in the handling of various hazardous materials (i.e. paint, glue, soap products, pool products, solvents, etc.).
  • Understanding and utilizing various health and safety practices.
  • If required, travelling (via company vehicle) to pick up children from school.
  • Implementing all applicable policies and procedures per Y.E.P.

Required Education and Experience

The ideal candidate must have at least a high school diploma, as well as two years of credible experience in E.C.E. and/or working with children; some obtained or pursuant collegiate education (i.e. a degree in E.C.E., a C.D.A. alternative, etc.) is preferred, but not required; at least one year of credible after-school experience is a plus. The ideal candidate must be able to multitask in a fast paced environment whenever possible, while displaying exceptional skills in communication and writing. The ideal candidate must also be able to follow and implement directions at all times.

Additional Requirements:

The ideal candidate must be voluntarily willing to take and pass a fully extensive criminal background check, which includes FBI, Criminal, & Child Abuse Clearances.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are generally 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday Through Friday, unless otherwise indicated; extended hours may be necessary as needed to cover staffing during center hours.
