Spartan Volunteer Network volunteers and Team Leaders are invited to become certified YCP van drivers and join the SVN Van Driver Corps. As certified van drivers, these student volunteers provide van transportation to and from SVN projects using college-owned 9-passenger vans.
How do I get certified to drive a YCP van for a service project?
Getting certified to drive a YCP van is easy! There are two steps involved.
Driving background check
In order to be granted access to operate a college-owned vehicle, you have to complete a driver history background check. Begin this process by filling out this Qualtrics Link.
After you fill out this form, you will receive a follow up email from Campus Safety that will let you know what your next steps will be for getting Van Driver Certified.
Certification course
Certification courses are 2 hours long and typically take place 1-2 times each month. They are facilitated by Campus Policy officers. Signups for these courses are available at this link.
What are my responsibilities as an SVN van driver?
SVN van drivers should reference the SVN Van Driver Checklist any time they are planning to transport YCP volunteers to and/or from a service project location using a YCP van.
How do I reserve a van for a project?
Check the van reservation calendar here. There are up to four vans that can be reserved.
Submit a van request form here. When prompted, enter CCE016 as the department.
Are there parking garages that I should avoid if I am driving a YCP van?
Look for a sign at the entrance that shares the maximum vehicle height for the garage. Do not park in a garage with a maximum vehicle height of less than 7 feet. Otherwise, you will damage the top of the van.
