"To us, AVID is a cooperative community that helps maintain academic excellency as a team in and outside of school. We want to get the best out of everyone, and inspire each other to do better in our studies. AVID is a judgement free place where working together is the most important factor in securing our bright futures.
AVID incentivises us to make good organizational habits, that will help us keep track of our lives in and outside of school. It gives us tools to help eachother, and learn ourselves at the same time. It sets us up for life after high school. Whether that be college, which we are provided ample support for, or work. Because we are all in the same place for the same reason, we are more than a class; we are a community.
AVID will help us understand us our important skills of organizing, time managing, teamwork, and communication. As a community it's important for us to stay motivated and help one another to achieve our goals in life. AVID is our final stepping stone."
"AVID is an elective that all grades can take which aims to prepare students for their post-high school decisions. It primarily focuses on guiding students to be prepared for college but generally helps students decide where they see themselves outside of high school and develop the skill set they need for it. The coursework tends to be individualized and doesn't require studying like other classes might but oftentimes you'll be doing research into yourself and your own future. It offers a place for students to bring questions to a class and hear different perspectives as to how to solve them. There are many off campus opportunities provided by AVID that takes students onto college campuses and allows them to see what their future could be. The course is designed to give students assignments that push them to genuinely consider their future and look into it beyond wishful thinking. It gives students a community of like-minded peers where the majority of students share the same intent of post-highschool success." -Jaz and Nick
"Avid is a course that you can rely on, Avid helps us build new skills and find ways to be successful. It prepares you for college, and helps you be more organized.Avid assists you with the pathways you want to take and creates a dependable community. Avid teaches you more about the person you want to be, like careers, ways to communicate better, and it creates your goals into reality. Applying to college may seem overwhelming but Avid will help guide you through the process. Avid is not just another fill in class, it is a guiding tool to success. It leads you to a disciplined lifestyle and prepares you for the real world after high school. From deciding what college you want to go to, to building basic adult life skills that will lead you to a well built future. And with all that helpful skills that it gives you it is also fun. Most of my memorable memories in high school have been through AVID as for many people in the program. The engaging helps people not only open up and create friends and have fun. "AVID is a school program that you can join, which helps you with college readiness and collaborative skills. AVID provides you with opportunities that other students may not get, like visiting colleges and universities that aren’t close by. Not only is AVID a fun elective, but it also helps you dig deeper into your future by helping you get a better understanding of what you want to be, who you want to be, where you want to go, and the steps you need to take to get where you want to be. AVID also teaches important skills like organization, time management, note-taking, communication, and teamwork. It encourages students to challenge themselves, stay motivated, and work toward their goals. "AVID means Advance, via, Individual, Determination. AVID is a class where multiple students can gather together and become one body and prepare for future college endeavors, career readiness, and organizational skills. All of this together will leave AVID students to create a plan for their future and have SMART goals. SMART goals stand for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. The whole purpose of SMART goals is to further prepare students for the challenges that lie ahead. AVID provides several opportunities to let students tour colleges, make new connections with others, and get a feel for college life and experience. As AVID students, we are given extra help and encouragement to really go the extra mile and thrive in getting into the colleges we want or even colleges we never knew could be meant for us. AVID is a really good resource where student agencies can push themselves to be the best version of themselves. They want the best for their future. They push themselves using Wicor for day to day activities that will prepare them for their future and college. "AVID is a college prep organization and program to help students throughout 9-12 to learn the basics and knowledge of college readiness. AVID also provides information to those who know nothing about what to do after high school. The curriculum relies on strategies known by the acronym WICOR ( Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading). AVID is perfect for students who struggle with study habits, time management, and overall school preparedness. AVID is a great class for these students because it grows and builds unprepared students confidence both academically and mentally. AVID provides tutorials which are study groups that students collaborate and help others with understanding certain subjects that they might not understand. "AVID is a wondrous place. Far far into yucaipa high school curriculum. You experience the thrill of college life, meeting new people, and exploring the world of adulthood. Students embark on many adventurous trips to colleges yearly including UCLA, UCSD, and UC santa barbara. All extremely important and educational. However, AVID requires a sacrifice, and that is to promise yourself that you will enter a 4-year University after High School. Entry is free and once you enter, you will be adequately prepared to enter College after being A-G ready. In AVID, you learn to socialize, cooperate, and solve critical thinking problems with your classmates. Weekly, you are put into TRF groups which are designed to not only apply college level input, but to help you in other classes with topics you struggle on. AVID is a prep work class that will not only help you graduate, but be set for life after high school." -Arlene, Milee, Brenda and Danyella
"Avid stands for advancement, via, individual, and determination, it is a school program that helps students prepare for college. This helps students with communication skills, collaborating with others, growing in your studies, and preparing for your future. Taking this class increases your knowledge about what colleges you would like to attend, and the scholarships they offer. Not only do they talk to you about colleges and scholarships but also about financial aid. you are also provided with help from the teachers and peers when stuck on any classwork. Avid doesn't allow you to fail and pushes you to be a better student and better person, they also encourage you to challenge yourself academically. Overall Avid is a great encouraging program for students who are on the path onto college and for those who would want a better idea for their future careers." -David and Rosa
"AVID is a program that helps all students become more prepared for college and their life after high school. AVID is accessible to all students, but you have to be willing to keep up. The program gives you a lot of support with things like studying, organization, and reaching your goals. You also get to work with like minded lionhearted magnanimous aspireful individuals who want to improve themselves and succeed. The program is more than just getting good grades it is also about building useful skills.
