WHAT IS COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY?

If you are thinking about skills using technology to communicate in a multimedia world, comm tech might be the course for you.  Students explore the many avenues in graphic design, graphic production, fashion design, web and application interface design, video and audio editing, motion graphics, animation, 3D animation, special effects, user experience, photography and digital manipulation.

GRADE 10

COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES OPEN TGJ2O1

This course introduces students to the basics of photography, graphic design, layout and composition, animation and video editing.  With a media perspective, students grasp the concepts of digital communication technology in print and screen media. The exploration of the design process is developed with activity based learning. 

Student projects may include hands on photography and filming productions and computer-based activities such as editing video content, editing photos, audio engineering, cartooning, animation, and designing for print.

GRADE 11

COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE TGJ3M1

Exploring student creativity using industry standard software in animation, motion graphics, video editing and print production will be a theme throughout the grade 11 course. A strong focus on technically photography will allow the student to challenge themselves in various photography applications.This course examines communications technology from a informative, educational, persuasive, entertaining and controlling perspective. Students will develop knowledge and skills as they design and produce media projects in the areas of live, recorded and graphics communications. These areas include TV, video, and short movie production, fashion illustration, print and graphic communications; photography and digital imaging; audio motion graphic animation.

Students create a photography portfolio that showcases their works and create a layout for large format printing.  Using vector based illustrations, students analyze and get inspired by our Canadian indigenous native culture by creating vinyl cut graphics on black substrate.  The TGJ3M1 course is a great blend of computer based activities and hands on technological applications.

GRADE 12

COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES: TGJ4M1

This course enables students to further develop media knowledge and skills while designing and producing projects in the areas of live, recorded, and graphic communications. Students expand on their skills and knowledge at a higher level creating products in fashion and sports equipment prototyping. Key themes are in branding, special effects and digital manipulation to prepare students for a career or in post secondary education in communications technology related fields.

Students will also expand their awareness of environmental and societal issues related to communications technology, and will investigate career opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing technological environment. Students will incorporate Catholic social teachings, as they become critical and innovative problem-solvers who question the use of human and physical resources as well as understand the implications of computers and related innovations.
