The Little Flower

Spring & Summer Issue 2022

A message from Principal Ms. Elisa Mastromartino

Our patron Saint Theresa believes we should ‘do the ordinary with extraordinary love,’ and this is exactly what I observed within our STL community this year. It was our faith in God and the commitment shown by all that has made us a stronger community. We had to continue to work through the adversities of COVID-19; however, we persevered and look at us now, the return of the ‘STL Roar’ is stronger than ever! Our school hallways were full, our Student Government ran outstanding events, our visual arts students enhanced the school environment, our music students showcased their talents, and our Athletics were back in full force. Most importantly, we were elated that we can celebrate the Graduating Class of 2022 in person this year!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of members from our STL family. We would like to wish Anna DiRezze, our school bursar, many blessings as she enjoys the next phase of her life. Her warm smile and high level of professionalism will be greatly missed in the office. We would also like to recognize four educators who are the heart and soul of STL. Some were pioneers and some joined the STL family the first few years the school opened. They have given us commitment and passion both in and out of the classroom, and our students are living proof of the impact they have made here at STL as teachers, coaches, advisors, colleagues and as friends. To our dearest Mr. John Dawson, Department Head of Canadian & World Studies, Ms. Natalie Cammalleri, Department Head of Cooperative Education, Mr. Brian Knuff, Department Head of Guidance, and Ms. Liliana Meschino, Department Head of Library: thank you for showing us the “Little Way.” We will carry your commitment and passion of our patron saint into the future…you will always be a part of the STL family! May St. Theresa of Lisieux look over all of you as you embark on your next journey in life.

I would like to recognize the staff, students, Catholic School Council members, and all STL families for always giving the best to our community; thank you for inspiring me through the ‘Little Way,’ which is truly synonymous with all things STL. I am also blessed to have the tremendous support of our admin team. Vice Principals Ms. Julie Akleh, Mr. Miguel Jorge and Mr. Jim Marrin, are three leaders that have exemplified empathy, commitment and a focus in serving both students and staff.

Students, as we finish off this school year, take the time to enjoy the little things that make you happy, and spend some quality time with your family and loved ones. I leave you with something to reflect on: “Remember that you are never alone; Christ is with you on your journey every day of your lives” (St. John Paul II).

Until we meet again in September, "St. Theresa of Lisieux, Pray for us."

Elisa Mastromartino, Principal
