In semester one, E.S.P. and S.O.S. have participated in a variety of activities, such as the twelve days of Christmas, anti-bullying week, and pink and blue shirt day. In semester two, our events included social media awareness week which focused on the dangers of using social media and the consequences of being active online for long periods of time. One event we held was providing a treat to students whose screen time check for social media was no more than 3 hours. Other events included: Pink Shirt Day, Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week, Violence Awareness Week, and Mental Health Week. We served students free herbal teas as an alternative to caffeinated drinks. During Mental Health Week we also created a garden of hope where students wrote positive messages to others on petals. Last but not least, we held our Therapy Dogs Event. Dogs from St. John Ambulance were in the library ready to be visited by all the students who wanted to spend time with them. For the student body, this was one of the most engaging events. Our Road and Pedestrian Safety Week featured Robert Annan's Accident Awareness presentation and MADD's presentation. The students learned about the dangers of driving distracted, unsafe street crossing, and not wearing a seatbelt. They also learned about the serious consequences caused by impaired driving. All of this is done to make students aware of the importance of safety.
ESP & SOS had a very successful school year in 2021/2022. We would like to thank our wonderful E.S.P. & S.O.S. presidents, Matthew Hammond and Karolin Hanna and our staff advisors, Mrs. Meschino and Ms. Romanelli. Good luck to our graduating students.
Stay safe STL.
Model UN is more than just debating; it is an intellectual discussion of certain topics through the perspective of your country/individual. Collectively, you are trying to work with other delegates to create a resolution that solves the issues present within the council and aligns with their country’s values. It allows students to improve their leadership, public speaking and problem solving skills. At the end of each conference, awards are given out to delegates that have stood out during the committee session. Overall, MUN is an excellent opportunity for students to think outside the box and connect with other students, as well as form friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. This year, St. Theresa of Lisieux's Model United Nations hosted its first ever invitational conference on Friday, June 3rd, 2022. This was an exciting opportunity for student-delegates to come together before the year ends, and debate on topics such ranging from the ramifications of the Metaverse all the way to overpopulation. As STLMUN makes history, the executive team worked tirelessly all year to make this event possible and were beyond excited to welcome schools and alumni to participate in this event.
STL Robotics is a competitive chapter that consists of 6 teams competing in the annual VEX Robotics Competition where teams design, build, program, and drive robots for each year's unique game concept. VEX Robotics introduces students to the practical applications of STEM where immense amounts of dedication, innovation, and collaboration are necessary to successfully construct and program a robot to efficiently perform a set of required tasks both autonomously and under user-control in a competitive, 2 versus 2 environment. From robotics veterans to those with no initial experience, STL Robotics managed to win 4 tournament champion awards, 2 tournament finalists, the Excellence award, Think award, Innovate award, and have 4 teams qualify for the VEX Robotics Worlds Championship! In early May, our teams traveled to Dallas, Texas to compete against over 800 teams, reaching the round of 16 and quarter finals, in addition to winning the coveted Energy Award in the LRT competition! The future of STL Robotics looks bright!
