Read the beginning and ending first.
Focus
Read the middle, paying specific attention to what the main character thinks about, says and does.
Review
Read the beginning and ending again.
Restate
In one or two sentences, state what the narrative is about.
Reflect
Reflect on what the narrative made you think and feel.
Checklist for Reading Real-Life Narratives
Have I scanned the first and last paragraphs so I know how the narrative begins and ends?
Have I read the middle part of the narrative, focusing on what the main character thinks about, says and does?
Have I reread the ending to remind myself of how the narrative ends?
Do I know what the narrative is about?
Have I reflected on what the narrative means to me?
2) Read the Real-Life Narrative, "A Catch Tale"
3) On a separate sheet of paper, answer the multiple choice questions, and short answer questions that follow.
