SAS provides services and supports to foster an equitable educational experience for students with disabilities, and assists them in achieving their academic goals. We facilitate academic accommodations and provide supports to students with a documented permanent disability or temporary ongoing medical, mental health and/or cyclical health condition that is affecting academic functioning. Services and accommodations are determined on an individual basis.
Students must complete their university applications through OUAC by Jan. 15, 2021.
Gather information:
Up-to-date documentation of the student’s disability is required.

Once a student has received a letter of acceptance to Brock University and has accepted their offer, they should contact the Student Accessibility Services transitions co-ordinator as soon as possible to inform us of their needs and begin arrangements for accommodations. Appropriate documentation of disability To access SAS services, students must submit appropriate professional documentation of functional impact of a disability or medical condition.

Smart Start provides a great opportunity for students with a diagnosed disability or health condition to meet with Student Accessibility Services.
Students will meet with a Case Manager and other staff, review accessibility needs and, where appropriate, discuss technology needs.
StudentsmustindicateontheironlineSmartStartregistrationform that they wish to meet with SAS.
Depending on the COVID-19 situation, if it is not possible to meet for an in-person appointment, SAS staff will arrange for a virtual meeting with students. To register for Smart Start, visit brocku.ca/start
A transition program offered by Student Accessibility Services that is specifically designed for students with a diagnosed Learning Disability and/or other documented disability.
Start with Strategies is a workshop-based program designed to offer an introduction to university life and skills for a successful transition.
Start with Strategies offers multiple program options:
Online Program
One-Day Program
Two-Day Program
Workshops include: understanding your psycho-educational assessment/ understanding your disability, strategies for academic success, introduction to seminars and lectures, time management and organization, using assistive technology, stress and anxiety management, and self advocacy.
New as of this year, we have launched our first ever Online Start with Strategies. After having to cancel our in-person program option this past year, we have developed an online program that reaches all students through Brocks Learning Management System (SAKAI). Students who participate have access to personalized workshops and online activities tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities.
Students have a full day of individualized workshops that will help better prepare them for the transition to Post Secondary. Students also have the opportunity to connect with SAS Staff and fellow first-year students. Dates are TBA pending the current COVID-19 situation.
Offering the same workshops as the One-Day options plus, an overnight stay on campus and off campus activities. Dates are TBA pending the current COVID-19 situation. These programs are funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
