The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) assesses whether students have achieved the essential literacy skills required across all subjects until the conclusion of Grade 9. A passing score on the literacy test is a mandatory criterion for obtaining an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The video introduces the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) and outlines key details for students participating in it. The test is administered in fall and spring during the regular school day, aligning with The Ontario Curriculum standards for literacy up to Grade 9. Successful completion is a graduation requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The online OSSLT comprises two sessions, each lasting approximately 60 minutes. Session A includes reading selections and questions, while Session B involves reading a dialogue, answering questions, and writing an opinion essay. Students have access to various tools during the test, such as a text-to-speech reader and zoom features.
Preparation includes an introductory session, practice tools, and access to a practice test on EQAO's website. The test's alignment with the curriculum means additional preparation is not necessary. Individual Student Reports are provided to schools, offering outcomes and insights for improvement. Visit www.eqao.com for more information on the Education Quality and Accountability Office.
