Hoor Ulain U. (IB Class of 2022)
University of Waterloo (Accounting & Financial Management)
I initially joined the IB programme as a way to enrich my academic journey by taking more rigorous classes, but as I leave the programme, I realize that I learnt so much more than classroom content. The past two years have allowed me to become a better learner by balancing extracurricular activities through CAS and learning about knowledge consumption and translation in the Theory of Knowledge course. More than that, I have been able to sharpen my time management skills in the process of balancing these challenging courses with my personal life, all while forging strong connections with my peers in the programme. Most importantly, the programme has made me internationally minded, as no course solely revolves around a singular country or region; it takes into account perspectives and ideas from all over the world. This was especially apparent in my Economics course, which is one of the primary reasons I chose to go into business (or accounting, to be more specific) in post-secondary. Ultimately, the programme has genuinely shaped both my work ethic as well as my ability to operate as a global learner.

The IB program is a worthwhile endeavour any student should consider taking up, and its rigour makes it a great challenge that anyone with the right mindset can tackle. Not only do you learn what is beyond your level through a more holistic approach, but you also perfect your learning skills and are given opportunities to grow that present lessons that will follow you down any pathway you choose to take. Personally, the IB helped me come out of my shell to embrace my opinions, and those of others so I can be unapologetically and respectfully myself in my learning environment. Being an IB learner, especially at FMM, helped me improve where I lacked and strengthen where I was already strong, and I feel more ready for post-secondary studies than ever. The IB will set you up for success, and if you know yourself to be a hard worker and a dutiful student, I highly recommend joining!

The main quality that I gained from IB was the trait of overcoming challenges with an open mind.

I am so excited to have finally completed the IB programme! It was a wonderful experience and provided me with the opportunity to grow closer connections with staff and other students. I am looking forward to see how this programme has benefited me in my post-secondary experiences!

If you like to learn and constantly grow yourself then IB programme might be right for you. The extended essay and IA's uncovered my passion for research. Staying with your teacher late at school to figure what went wrong with your lab or running calculations 50 times before coming to the right answer and even theorizing the possible outcomes of why the lab resulted in a certain were all aspects that I enjoyed thoroughly. It's how I know that I'm going to pursue a PhD and spend my summers abroad working along professors to make the world a better place. IB did all of that it wasn't easy but it was worth it for me.

University of Waterloo (Bachelor of Science)
IB was very beneficial in preparing for the work load and time management skills. Learning how to finish assignments on time and studying for tests was useful. I won't say IB was easy, because it definitely was a hard journey, but the hard work pays off and brings success. Working hard and efficient is something I gained out of the IB programme and it was definitely worth it!
