Mid-November to Mid-December

As you begin to think about what you would like to write about for your Extended Essay, we would like you to complete the following steps:

1. Read the Extended Essay Guide -- general sections plus the subject-specific sections for the subjects that interest you.

2. Think about your interests and talents. Complete Interest Letter by November 17th.

3. Complete the Extended Essay Proposal Form by December 18th.  Note: To be able to complete this form, you must first log in to google with your @ycdsbk12.ca email address.

Mid -December to Mid February

5. Next, begin looking for a Supervisor.   Have a copy of your Pre-Proposal with you.  Send an email or go respectfully to the department office and ask to speak to the potential mentor. OR, find the mentor at the beginning or end of a school day and ask them when is a good time to come to talk to them.  If/When they have time to hear your request, introduce yourself and tell them about your proposed topic (and why it is so interesting) and politely ask if they are willing to be your mentor.  If they agree, please ask them to sign your Supervision contract. This form should be completed by yourself and signed by your parents prior to the Supervisor signing it. The form is then to be uploaded to Managebac before January 15, 2026.

6.  Once you find a Supervisor, please enter your Supervisor's name and the subject/topic they have agreed to Supervisor you on in Managebac.

7. Please submit your Extended Essay Information Registration Google form  by February 3rd through this Registration Information Google Form.  Note: To be able to complete this form, you must first log in to google with your @ycdsbk12.ca email address.
